HELP! Tethered Control of E series camera's

This might be one that needs Ian's input.

It seems that Olympus camera's and in my case more specifically E series models are served badly in terms of tethered operation.

My guess is that it is due to the lack of a suitable API and/or APK from Olympus.

Is there anybody who can comment on this?

I would like to be able to thether from LR. It would be great to see an Android app to enable a tablet to be used with liveview. How cool would that be!

Interestingly I have a guy at work might be willing to create an app as a hobby activity if the API/K existed.

There is an SDK - see http://developer.olympus.com/cameras.html. Note that PENs are not supported.

I still use Studio2 Teathered to the E-3 (and E-500)

I'd love to have the OM-D teathered to an Ipad and while there is the WiFi card connection, it's not the same as having control of the camera from the "computer".

Problem is, there are not enough of us that want this facility

I've come to accept that it will never happen so have developed other ways of working... I've even got a small LCD TV working as a viewfinder when the PEN is attached to the OM Macro Bellows or 50mm + EX25

When I do demos, I often connect the cameras to a projector and use live view, so all can see what I am seeing and doing.

I've looked for a small TV to USB converter that will work with an Ipad, but havn't found a suitable on yet. Anyone know of one that works

I'm interested in this subject too, Hec. I do presentations using E-series and LR3.5/4 and would love to be able to shoot tethered.

Thanks folks. After my originl post I did find the SDK and I amy talk to my tame geek to see if he wants to play around with this from the Android tablet point of view.

In the mean time I'll look around as there are a couple of applications out there.

Sadly Studio 2 is no longer available on the Olymus site either as a full version or a trial.

Yes, I had previously looked all over for a copy of Studio 2 - alas I never found it. It does surprise me that there isn't a plug-in or something similar for LR for this as I am sure (although small) there would be a market for this to make it viable for someone clever to have a go at - even with a donationware type financial model to support it.

Count me in if there's anything I can do to help.

Thanks everyone - apoligies for my late response but work has been getting in the way rather.

Anyway I've installed Studio 2 and currently running in trial mode. Will try and get a key via Olympus support. However in the meantime it works.

I may play around getting camera control working in Viewer2 as per the thread in the "other place".

Still want to have it tethered via LR4 though and also to my tablet ( ASUS Transformer).

I suspect this one will run on for some time

Here are the registration keys for Windows and Mac from the fourthirdsphoto site. According to what I've read Olympus are simply giving out the same keys to everyone.

I'm using Studio 2 on a Macbook Pro running Lion. My camera is an E620. When I connect the two via the USB cable the software doesn't see the camera. It's switched on and set to Control.

Anybody got any ideas what's going on, or not as the case may be?

What a good find!

I may apply for the SDK and see what I can do with Eclipse and my few Android Devices.

First things first would be a tethered shutter release - then if that works - who knows!

Hi,

So I have the SDK now and I am just installing Visual Basic 2010 to play with some of the included samples!

Lets see what I can do.

Late Update ---

Ok, so I have the SDK working on Windows 7 and VB2010.
The samples did not help as they are all VB6!

So I started from Scratch and can pull information like model number from the camera.
I have been reading up and should be able to pull out a captured image by the end of the week.
