Sadly for me pasterw got the 35-100 that I wanted, but fair enough - he had posted a 'wanted' thread on here, plus he was able to call Aperture - I was working in a dark corner of Cornwall where I couldn't get a signal so had to rely on email..

Anyway, once again thanks Simon - you must have helped make yesterday a good one for Aperture !

Yeah, Simon did great job. I'm very thankful. to be honest I emailed aperture just after his post asking about 12-40mm, 60mm and 35-100mm. once I called them 12pm all were available. though, I decide not to be greedy and leave one at least for some other lucky guy. now awaiting 12-40mm and 60mm. my oly 12mm 2.0 with genuine hood is going for sale. I may still keep 17mm 1.8 and 45mm 1.8.
once again big thank you.

Thanks Simon,

Came in late and missed the 60, never mind, there will be others but interesting to see current used prices.

Re: Head's Up .. great buys @ Aperture UK

hi there, just today received my 2 lenses from aperture. both nice pieces of glass, but..
60mm has badly looking white piece of something, some kind of dirt or dust, it looks it is just under front glass and sitting on next one. moving lens round it stays always same place. i hope it will not be shown on pics but still it is quite big and makes me crazy.. what would you do..?

The add says 'as new', so I would have thought you would be entitled to return it, or at least negotiate a partial refund.
I doubt it will effect image quality, but it would trouble me, so I would probably return the lens.
Best of luck.

Sorry to hear this,

Aperture are normally very good at sorting such things out and to be honest it is in their interest to. If I were you I would phone them tomorrow outlining the 'issue' you have and also send them the images. I would not look to get a reduction in price, instead I would look to either have them get the lens serviced, i.e. remove the offending particle or ask for a refund which you will automatically be entitled to under the 'distance selling regulations'.

If you go the 'servicing' route they should refund the cost of posting the lens back to them and also pay for the postage back to you. If you decide to take a refund this should also include the postage charge you would have paid to have it delivered to you and the postage charge to send it back to them.

Small marks and/or dust/particles to the front couple of elements will not normally make a difference to the final image, the condition of the rear element however is of far greater importance as it is much closer to the image plane. This however is a macro lens and if you intend to use it as such you will be stopping it down a fair way and this is when such issues can manifest themselves in the final image due to greater depth of field.

Give them a ring tomorrow and keep us informed.

Kind regards, Simon
