The Salisbury Font & E-30

I took this when I went to Salisbury Cathedral earlier this week.

This new font is a truly amazing thing.

Taken handheld, aperture priority and 'auto' for ISO and WB - because I'm still getting used to the camera and didn't want to get it completely wrong.

Amazing looking font

From your steady hands I'm guessing you're not a coffee drinker?

Ellie,
That's a great image. I couldn't quite make out what I was looking at at first - I thought it was some form of photo montage. I love the reflection of the stained glass windows in the absolutely still water.

Re: The Salisbury Font & E-30

Lovely shot Ellie - and what a marvellous design I really must go and see it.

And the fact the font has running water spilling out whilst maintaining that perfect reflection - wow.

Re: The Salisbury Font & E-30

I hope you don't mind multiple replies.

@ Alistair and AndyM - I drink a lot of coffee, don't have particularly steady hands, I was lucky with this one.

@ everybody else - It is an amazing thing to see, the water is flat calm, which is strange because it's obviously flowing, so it must be a very special design.

Anybody who has the chance to get to Salisbury Cathedral is in for a visual and spiritual treat, because this font really does make you think.

But you have to be quite patient, especially if there's somebody standing by the font using another *cough* brand of camera, a massive pale coloured lens and a big flash gun!

Thanks.

I was lucky because I stood on some staging near the font and managed to get this picture before somebody warned me of the H&S risks!

So is the photograph you took. What's your nickname, Steady Ellie?

Given the blur of the woman at the back, you have really nailed it.

Like others, I couldn't work out what I was seeing at first, but it is a wonderful piece of craftmanship and design.

Thanks for showing.

Thanks David.

If you ever get the chance to go to Salisbury Cathedral you can see this beautiful thing yourself.

Re: The Salisbury Font & E-30

An extraodrinary image of an ingenious font, Ellie.

Indeed, it is possible that I visited this Cathedral 20 years ago when it was then undergoing an extensive renovation - is this the cathedral associated with Thomas Becket and Cardinal Woolsley and has hanging somewhere within its hallowed walls, The Fairy Flag (I think it was called)? Or living downunder have I got my history all upside down!
