An Aussie Thing

BUGGA ALL TO PHOTOGRAPH

With blizzard like weather sweeping NE Victoria, big trees falling, one crushing a car but the driver survived,
the Snow Road is closed, airfield is shutdown, rivers are rising so there was only one sensible thing I could do ...

I bought a half dozen Lamingtons, they are an iconic Aussie thing, fluffy light sponge cake covered in pink jelly
and dessicated coconut (I added the yoghurt instead of cream as I'm watching my weight, you see ... )

Good advice. It's foul weather mood food.

How long did the Lamingtons last as they look so scrummy?

I hope you weather improves soon as I get a touch of the DT's if the camera is out of my hands for just a few hours.

Re: An Aussie Thing

Hi Barrie, the "lammos" as we call them are scrummy, they come chocolate coated also.
There are still 5 left in the box, I'm rationing myself to one per day!

I need to correct the earlier statement; the driver of the car died when the tree fell on his car.

I thought I was alone in getting the DT's if a camera is out of my hands for just a few hours. Comforting to know that I'm not alone.

Re: An Aussie Thing

Hi Mark, News update: It was a woman driver who was killed (not a man) when a tree fell on her car and a child is fighting for its life.

I would like to have been able to take a few photos but without a yacht it's hard to shoot the wind!
Take good care "in gale" if you get to the sea. The camera will be okay, it's you I'm worried about!

Not going to sea for certain Mark. The old tub is up for sale alas, my sea days are over...Just one more trip up the mast to put the rubber band back on the radar...

Re: An Aussie Thing

Sorry to hear that Mark, I know how much you love sailing and the sea. Why are you giving it away?

Not giving it away, selling it....I just find it hard work now. Fingers and hands are arthritic so could do without the pain.....

Much prefer walking around with the camera and harassing birds....!!

Its an age thing....

Re: An Aussie Thing

I almost asked if it was an aged thing but thought it safer simply to ask why!
By 'giving it away', I meant quitting (an Aussie expression I guess)

I can't see Paul Hogan eating one of those - more like goanna roasted on an open fire in the outback!

'Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong

Under the shade of a coolibah tree,

He sang as he watched and snacked on his Lamington
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me'

... doesn't quite conjure up the tough outdoors pioneering type!

Re: An Aussie Thing

Nah, it was Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, who lived on lammos!
Hoges wouldn't have known what he was missing.
I reckon that Linda Kozlowski scoffed them all!

Re: An Aussie Thing

High winds here too, but about as far from the sea as you can get in the UK.

Re: An Aussie Thing

Another Aussie thing.

‘Sunshine’ reaper and binder.
Made by HV McKay Massey Harris Ltd in Sunshine, Victoria, 1930's.

Apparently the last working horse drawn R&B in the UK.
