My 14h 4/3 or m4/3 camera

4/3 Camera number 14.

Yes, I have just bought my 14th 4/3 m4/3 camera body, I have always had two at a time with the idea that one is a “back up”. I never actually needed a back up until last year when my EM-1 had two trips to the Olympus repair men in Portugal. My “back up” then was a GX7, which gave good IQ, but the EVF and screen were dreadfully dull.

I toyed with the idea of getting a Pen F, but I prefer my cameras to be weather sealed. The final clincher was the £175 summer cash back on the OMD E-M5ii.

I have claimed the cash back from Olympus, and have not had any problems yet.

Another thing offered by Olympus is a 6 month extension to the warranty. I do not know what the warranty duration is, or how to claim the extension – can anyone help please?

I am very pleased with the camera, for some reasons I did not expect. The first is that I have a 12-40 f2.8 zoom, a very good lens indeed, but one that I did not use much. It seemed too big and heavy on anything except the E-M1 with the vertical grip, which makes for a bulky and heavy set up.

I have a leather half case on the OMD E-M5ii and with it the camera feels comfortable and well balanced with the 12-40. I think that lens will stay on there forever.

Another surprise, was the sound of the mechanical shutter, very quiet and I think the best since the E1, much quieter than the shutter on my EM-1, just replaced by Olympus.

I bought that GX7 from Ffordes 3 years ago, and have not used it much. I sent it back to Ffordes for commission sale, and they priced it for sale at £189 and noted it needed a sensor clean, (£20).

Later they came back and said that the sensor clean had been unsuccessful, because the dirt was not on the sensor, but under the glass on its surface. I had never heard of that before, but they say they have suffered the same problem several times with Panasonic cameras. So it is being sold for £99, no guarantee. I never noticed any spots on any images I shot with it.

I have not tried the 40MP image yet, another adventure to come.

I certainly haven't had 14 but the OMD E-M5ii is easily my favourite (so far), I am sure you will enjoy it Peter.

Ron,

Many thanks, I have registered the camera and I do subscribe to the news letter, so maybe I have done it.

Re: My 14h 4/3 or m4/3 camera

Jason,

We have trodden a rather similar path, mine went like this:

1. E1
2. E300
3. E500 (Prize in an Olympus Photo Competition)
4. E410
5. E620
6. E5
7. EP1
8. EP2
9. Panasonic G2 - bought at a knock down price from Dixons, I wanted to try the EVF
10. EP3
11. OMD EM5
12. GX7
13. OMD EM1
14. OMD EM5ii

If you take out my prize E500 and my two Panasonics we are not far apart.

I am very happy with what I have now and do not envisage any changes, but you never know.

Re: My 14h 4/3 or m4/3 camera

Somewhat overshadowed by you, but...…….

1. EPL1
2. EPL5
3. EM10
4. EM1
5. EM1 ii

Kinda regret selling the EM1, as it would have been a great backup, and 2nd body...………..

Re: My 14h 4/3 or m4/3 camera

I can't remember the exact order of one or two of these, but I've been through:

E1
E520
E620
E-PL1
E-PL2
E-M5
E-M1
Panasonic GM1
E-M1 [2]
E-M5ii
E-M1ii
E-M1ii [2]

That makes 13 bodies.

Re: My 14h 4/3 or m4/3 camera

It looks like I have some decent catching up to do then.
E410
E520
E30
E-M5
E-M1
E-M1 Mk II.
Somehow, I can't see myself getting anymore bodies (famous last words). My wife wants some money to retire with.
