Can you manually stop down a lens?

Keen to find out if it is possible to manually stop down a micro four-thirds lens.

E.g. set exposure to manual 1/60th @ f/5.6. In time lapse you take hundreds of images and the slight variation in aperture contributes to flicker.

I would like to manually stop down to f/5.6 so the aperture does not open and close for each shot. Is this possible please?

I don't think so. However the Panasonic LEICA DG SUMMILUX Lens H-X015E has a manual control, so that may provide fixed aperture.

Or a cheaper option would be the 7.5mm Samyang. It's a cracking little manual lens.

It does, but only the Panasonic u43 'reads' the lens aperture setting on the lens. With Olympus u43, aperture needs to be selected using one of the twiddly dials in A or M, the lens aperture setting is ignored.

Re: Can you manually stop down a lens?

Thanks for the info, shame Oly cameras cannot read the aperture ring setting on the H-X015E.

I got all excited by the depth of field preview lock setting, but alas the aperture is still opened and closed when you take a photo.

If in manual exposure and manual focus I would hope that this could be implemented as a firmware update. I'll contact Oly and ask - you never know!

I know someone who could sell you a GX7 if you wish. I know him really well, but my wife says she knows him better.

Lightbulb Re: Can you manually stop down a lens?

I have achieved very good results with the OM Zuiko 24mm f/2.8 and the 50mm f/1.4

Many say the 24mm is the best lens to use on MFT.
