Culinary Masterpiece of Symphonic Flavours

I had invited my GP, his wife and their 8 years old daughter to my place for tea. In an effort to impress I decided to show off my culinary skill by baking one of my grand pizzas.
I was surprised by a knock on the door at 5:30pm, an hour earlier than expected; it turned out that I had mistakenly read his text message confirming the time as 6:30pm.
My intention was to have it ready to serve as soon as they arrived; instead the dough was still proving in front of the heater. This threw me into total panic mode.
Making polite conversation while preparing a pizza with no less than 17 toppings requires a level of two channel concentration that I simply don't have.
The next embarrassment was lighting the new oven that I had used only once some time ago and be damned if I could get it to light.
So I called in my neighbour (Eddie knows all about mechanical stuff) who much to the amusement of my guests showed me how!
I was so completely nonplussed that I set the timer for 30-35 minutes instead of the critical 15-20 minutes and
returned to my guests to begin a deep conversation about religion, which was actually on the agenda.
The pizza was totally ruined but we all sat down to eat what little was edible.
So tonight I baked another for myself; this it how it should have looked!

Moral: Man shall not live on pizza alone but by every word that procedeth out of the mouth of God.

Re: Culinary Masterpiece of Symphonic Flavours

I will 'flesh out' the narrative a bit to provide a further insight to the nature of the evening and its raison d'Ítre. The doctor is new in town and has opened a new practice here. He and his family are African. He also happens to be a "Born Again " lay preacher and after a recent consultation the conversation turned to religion. Now being a self-confessed unrepentant sinner from way back I suspect he recognised it was not so much my body but my soul that was SICK! Nevertheless he has an enormous sense of humour and we get along so well that I suggested we continue the conversation over dinner one night, so it came to pass. After a great deal of proselytising on both sides I think it fair to say that it concluded amicably in a draw. Aside from the burnt pizza it was an enjoyable evening all round that concluded with a return invitation at a date to be set.

Re: Culinary Masterpiece of Symphonic Flavours

As far as dinner went it was a very sad story I'm afraid, OM.
