Thumbs up A timely reminder...

28 September: Blood Super-moon lunar eclipse

A rare cosmic event will take place at the end of the month, when two events – a super-moon and a lunar eclipse – occur at the same time.

A super-moon takes place when a full moon happens at the closest point in its elliptical orbit around Earth, which makes the full moon appear brighter and larger. A lunar eclipse when the moon passes into the Earth's shadow.

According to Earthsky, the event will be visible in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Western Asia and the Eastern Pacific Ocean region. It is the first event of its kind since 1982, and Nasa officials have said it will be the last until 2033.

Whether we get the weather... depends on the weather?

EDIT: 21:36pm WHEN IS IT GOING TO HAPPEN? The super-moon will be visible all night. The lunar eclipse will begin just after 1 a.m. Monday morning in the UK, and the total eclipse will peak at 3.47 a.m.

Re: A timely reminder...

What settings would be appropriate to use, I will probably use my 40-150 pro with the 1.4. I am in the USA in Utah so it is supposed to be good, that is if the clouds cooperate and we all know how well that sometimes works out.

Re: A timely reminder...

Alarm will be set and have checked Stellarium so know where to wander over to try to capture some pictures (playing field about 5 minute walk away).

Weather forecast in Brizzle looking good (plus I'm home alone Sunday night so alarms going off a stupid o'clock won't be an issue).

Thanks Wally both for the heads up and the links

It's Sunday night for us but the forecast isn't looking good at the moment.

Re: A timely reminder...

The forecast where I am is pretty mixed. If I miss this one I'll have to book a seat on the elevator in the afterlife.

Re: A timely reminder...

We won't get to see it here being daylight (mid morning Monday) & no moon in sight, so I took a shot of the supermoon tonight anyhow (handheld & not great quality, but what the heck, I've got the shot anyhow), shown here. http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthre...311#post360311

The usual setting for a full moon is the same as for terrestrial sunshine. Adjust accordingly. Essentially, take a reading off the moon and ignore the rest of the sky.

Re: A timely reminder...

I found this interesting reading on settings https://photographylife.com/how-to-p...-lunar-eclipse

Whether or not I actually found it useful I'll decide when I see what I get back with in the morning (if not the issue will be with me I'm sure).

Weather forecast here still looking good. Just back from buying a cheap head torch so I can see what I'm doing in the middle of a field in the small hours.

All I need to do now is have a few beers so I'll feel like a snooze around 2100 ready for the alarm going off at 0130

Re: A timely reminder...

Our forecast has got worse, it's now supposed to start clouding over this afternoon rather than this evening.

Re: A timely reminder...

Should be a cloudless night here tonight, the event is happening at a very civilised time in the evening according to Other World Computing eg
" On Sunday, moon will drift into the Earth's shadow starting at 8:11 PM ET, with the total eclipse beginning at 10:11 PM ET and reaching its maximum at 10:47 PM ET."

And we are 3 hours behind ET and it gets dark by about 6pm. So if I am alert I will see if we can partake in the festivities.

30 minutes after I posted that the cloud rolled in and we've had maybe 5 minutes of sun since then.
