Adjusted WB of City Nightscape (wide photo).

I posted the city nightscape of Broken Hill in another thread with a colourful but unreal lighting rendition due the camera auto white balance with at least three different coloured street lights in it. I decided to try & get the real colour of the city nightscape & used Grey Point Specification (of Olympus Viewer 2) checking variuos points for the best results after I couldn't get there by using custom WB. I've posted the larger photo again because I thought the detail was important in this one.

This is the original (cropped) photo.

And this was the first quick adjusted photo.

All comments welcome.

I've always liked night time shots and the details revealed in this one are great.

Thanks Dan. I did like to show the interesting detail within this one, but the real reason I posted it in this thread was about colour & white balance choice.
I'm interested in peoples choice for the corrected white balance version or the artistic looking version with green lighting in the foreground.

This was the original (cropped) photo in my previous thread (in Foto Fair).

Comments on the WB & choice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Adjusted WB of City Nightscape (wide photo).

There is a school of thought that says preserve the warmth in artificial light where appropriate, or at least to a degree. This often applies when shooting indoors without flash.

Here the problem is the green cast from the street lighting and this has been fixed nicely, but I do feel the rest of the lighting is a touch cold.

Super photo by the way - it made my monitor seem much bigger than it really is!

Thanks Ian. I do agree it looks a bit cool. Here is my last attempt at making it look real but keeping sufficient warmth in it as well.
I promise this is the last giant photo I'll post (for a while ). I'd appreciate comment on the crop too.

Thanks.

Re: Adjusted WB of City Nightscape (wide photo).

The third version looks best to me. The first one, correcting the green completely, made the rest of the town too magenta and the uncorrected green in the second is just horrible. The compromise in the third works very well.

Ciao ... John

Thanks John. I probably should have spent more time on it before I posted it in the first place. I guess the tourist mentality was still fresh in me (it was my first time in Broken Hill) at the time & I just wanted to show my pics.

No worries, Ross, it was good to see the pic and interesting to go through the iterations with the colours. I find it often takes time to see these things propoerly anyway.

Ross, my preference is your Thread#5 version, it has loads of detail and pleasing warmth.

It's a great pano with lots of detail, the last one is my favourite too. The earlier one was definitely too cold and the green one was just horrible.
