E3 / 50-200SWD / EC-14 does Chester Zoo!

Had a great day at Chester Zoo with the Talkphotography crowd. Managed to fill 2 4gb cards with JPEG's so lots of pics to post.

Used the 50-200SWD and the EC-14 exclusivly and the weatherproofing was tested due to the continuous rain.

Just one to show for now, but many, many more will follow over the next few days as i start to go through and process the shots..

Hey Chris, hope you all had a great day out. Looking forward to seeing more pics if this one is anything to go by.

How did the Canikonites manage in the rain...

Very nice - lovely use of dof to accentuate the eye through taking some of the body detail out of focus.

I agree with John - let's see some more.

Poor loves had to keep wiping them down or covering them up . My E-3 just carried on doing what it does.

There was also an interesting conversation in the cafe' at lunchtime about cleaning sensors due to dust problems. I told them how i clean mine.....

Re: E3 / 50-200SWD / EC-14 does Chester Zoo!

Very nice shots! I am particularly interested as I've been using my Sigma 135-400 at my local zoos (Colchester and Linton) and it is almost too long, as well as being a bit on the slow side. I was thinking next time I'd take the 50-200/EC14 and this has convinced me.

A magnificent set of photographs. Congratulations.

Ray.

PS I like the shot of the Heron - very well composed and focussed.

Chillimonster,

An awesome set of photos. I use the 50-200 + EC-14 myself. It's a great combination for animals; so small, fast and 560mm EFL.

Re: E3 / 50-200SWD / EC-14 does Chester Zoo!

I was struggling to pull in some of the smaller animals even at that!

I was a little dissapointed with the softness of some of the images, but looking at the Prarie Marmots i know its not the camera as it really nailed those shots, so it must be down to user error

Really should have carried the Monopod with me.

While i was there there was some major L glass on show from the Canon Boys (600mm Prime lens that cost more than my whole kit ).There were also three Nikon users and just me with the E-3 - although i did meet a nice guy in the reptile house who was using the E-3 & 12-60 and loving it.

All in all a good day with the exception of the dire weather.

I missed the point about the weather in the OP. That makes them even better in my view. I particularly like the otters, marmot and reptiles. And love the action shot of the penguins. Da*n, that 50-200 is crisp!

I'm astounded you thought about jumping ship after this set!
