Re: What is so wrong with red trousers?

Enter “look at my red trousers” in to Google and look at the first result.

Tells you all you need to know. I’m simply amazed nobody seems to have been aware of that on this site so populated with style gods.

(Non-family friendly BTW, and probably not to be tried at work because of the name of the site)

A point most eloquently well made!

Wearing red uniform into battle can be a disguise for injury. Perhaps there was fear of blood letting during the 2008 Olympus group meet!

Well I suppose that would be appropriate for shopping trips wouldn't it?

Too confronting for the general public. If you were a woman you would have been complimented - have you ever considered coming out, cross dressing or trans-gendering?

Don't think I have a pair of trousers less than two years old........

If they are comfortable, I wear them to the end,,,,,,,,,,

Re: What is so wrong with red trousers?

There is a website called Stuff Dutch People Like, which includes a section on red trousers:

https://stuffdutchpeoplelike.com/2011/09/27/red-pants/

We used to have some Dutch contributors on here, but I don't recall hearing from them for a while. Shame, perhaps they could give us the Nederlandse perspective

Errrr, NO!

Colour is a very personal thing. I am no snowflake, and I dislike wishy washy colours or anything that is half arsed I suppose.

I also have a particular fondness for strong, intense colours, and reds in particular, but also strong blues and greens; just as I prefer Velvia to Sensia most of the time. Maybe it is something to do with my Italian blood line?

For me it is not a fashion statement, trying to stand out or attract attention, but simply liking a colour and feeling comfortable with it. SWMBO on the other hand is the opposite, and prefers quieter colours that don't stand out so much.

In answer to Ron's question; yes I do drive a bright red Jag, (JLR call it Italian Racing Red), which looks gorgeous in the sun provided it is clean. The way I look at it a car has to have a colour, so if you are paying for it why not choose a colour that you love rather than something that grates every time you look at it? (I much prefer a Barley interior to Black BTW. )

Black and silver have become ubiquitous colours for cars over the past twenty years, and are supposed to improve resale values, but have become so boring. Just try to find your silver Astra or Golf in a supermarket car park.

Then there are cars that look as if they are still in primer, or have the packing material stuck on the doors. The latter is very practical I'm sure, but I wouldn't want to turn round and look at one from the other side of the street.

Anyhow, I am grateful for the moral support, and will make it my mission to somehow slip some red trousers into the shopping basket at M&S.

Well now this is interesting. My father's mother was Italian, so I had assumed that might be the reason for my love of red, but my mother's father was Dutch. My mother was also very fond of bright, flamboyant colours and never did anything by halves.

I used to go to organ demos in the Midlands when we lived there, usually played by a Dutch guy, who always came in a strangely bright pinky plum colored jacket. He joked that he had found it hanging on his bedpost one Christmas Eve, and his wife claimed it was a surprise Christmas present for him, so he had no choice but to wear it!

You know why the Dutch love red, don't you? If you don't, just have a look at a whole Edam cheese..... you could say the Dutch have a 'thing' about large red balls, perhaps....

My wife recently informed me that corduroy is back for men's trousers.
