Orange Tip

A couple of shots of an Orange Tip butterfly. Poor wee fella was almost torpid during a freezing cold day in May.

A crop around the eye. I am amazed at the detail from the 50mm f2 lens

Re: Orange Tip

Cheers Keith

I am blown away with the detail - it is just fantastic

Kit was E30, zd50mm macro, fl50, 1/100sec and iso 100.

I also took a shot or two with the 70 - 300, I have not looked at them yet but will just have a skeck and see what the difference is like

Re: Orange Tip

Absolutely superb, it will be interesting to see the 70-300 shots to compare but I wouldn't expect so much detail from them.

Re: Orange Tip

These are the 70 -300 shots. Again with the E30, f10, 1/200sec, iso 100 and the fl50.

I would have been happy with this one at this size.

The crop shows a lot less detail.

Re: Orange Tip

I would be over the moon with the 70-300 ones - but the others are special.

Re: Orange Tip

That 50mm is definitely on my wish list but the 70-300 is doing wonders in your hands too. Excellent shots.

Re: Orange Tip

Wow - great detail. I simply can never get insect shots of that quality so I clearly need to look at what you do

Great stuff

Re: Orange Tip

+1 for the 70-300 here! Those are great shots, and great adverts for both lenses.

Re: Orange Tip

Great pics Greg. you did well to get that close as they are very skittish little critters.

Re: Orange Tip

Two terrific close-ups Greg. The detail with the 50mm is stunning but the 70-300 is not far behind. Did you use a tripod for these?

Re: Orange Tip

Thanks for the comments

I would say that using flash, the fl50(diffused), for macro style shots with the 70 - 300 makes all the difference in the world

These shots were taken had held and the reason I managed to get so close to the wee butterfly was, I think, because it was blooming freezing and the wee thing was in a state of torpor
