Jessops resurrection

Jessops under the leadership of Peter Jones goes back online at noon today. It will be interesting to see what camera offerings they have.

Not sure whether my local store is going to reopen - let's hope so.

Re: Jessops resurrection

I thought they said it was just going to be online but it looks like they are opening a few stores now:

Quote:
The entrepreneur has taken on hundreds of staff, many of them former Jessops employees, and will open the first of more than 30 stores today in London and Birmingham.

Four more will open their doors over the Easter weekend in Two Jessops stores will open today in London's Oxford Street and Birmingham, with four others opening over the Easter weekend in Manchester, Aberdeen, High Wycombe and St Albans.

I may go check out the Birmingham store today. I expect to see just P&S, and bridge cameras.

Re: Jessops resurrection

Yes, Peter Jones of Dragon's Den fame was on Radio 4 this morning.

He indicated there was room for Photo shops still including high-end cameras as mobile phone camera quality is not good enough.

He also suggested that the shop price would match online prices else people would just shop online.

Here a quote from the man himself......

Not sure if all folk on here will agree from their experience of Jessops sales staff though lol.

"We've got a real chance of making it a success... The big thing about Jessops is the fact there is not another retailer in the country that has such experienced passionate staff when it comes to camera equipment sales... That makes a big difference."

Re: Jessops resurrection

I heard him on Radio 5 Live this morning. He was emphasising the fact that people would be able to reserve the goods online at internet prices and then go to their local store to pick them up, where they would receive helpful and informed advice! He is also going to do away with duplication of stores, so that there will be just one in each city. I hope he succeeds, although his description of the virtues of Jessops doesn't tally with the opinions of many people on this forum.

Hopefully the culture that existed at some Jessops stores will be a thing of the past - if not, well here we go again

Customer "I really like m4/3 and want to buy a m4/3 system, which is best Oly or Panasonic?"

Jessops sales person "If you want the best then Canon or Nikon"

But pretty close to the truth, based on past experience. A few years back I enquired at my local Jessops about a Micro Four Thirds lens. They didn't have it, but did try to convert me to Sony NEX!

You were able to order online and pick up at the store before but what Mr Jones has done here is cherry-picked the profitable stores and added some pazzaz. The main business will be online.
