Smile Java Sunrise...location is everything

I was up at 03:30 before a 15-minute walk to the beach near my house in Java. The reward was an amazing sunrise, and definitely the best of the three I tried: both others in Bali.

Before sunrise, with Venus visible in the sky. (Bintang Pagi - Morning Star to the locals.)

I guessed right on the location of the sunrise - only had to shift 3 meters to get this shot!

Just beautiful light all around...

David.

All excellent, but I much prefer the third one.

You are lucky to live in such a beautifully photogenic place.

David,

Three lovely photographs - each with their own features - but I suppose the third is the best composition. I like them all.

Statements like that are hard to swallow for us in "sunny wales"

Especially when they are followed by three such excellent pictures, #3 is simply superb, but I would have loved to have got any of them

Unless of course we can all consider ourselves invited to stay over

Regards
Andy

Filter free? No filters on the camera (0 EV) but...

...here's an OOC jpeg, resized for upload...

...these are all HDR from three shots +/- 1EV with my E-400 on my new tripod, processed in Photomatix.

I was there, and these photos represent the beauty I saw. I don't think any single photo captured it adequately. I was in awe of the light in the sky and reflections in the water. A truly stunning experience, and I have tried to reflect that.

David.

Anyone would be welcome to stay when we are there!

If a group want to go to Bali, I have local family/friends to make sure you are met at the airport and pay local (not travel agent) prices. E.G. 3* Hotel with pool 20-30 per night for a room with breakfast. Motorbike hire 2-4 and an air-conditioned 4x4 with driver for about 30 a day.

Indonesia is wonderful. In Bali, a villa with swimming pool in the mountains can be built for 40,000. Most people can sell their house and retire here. 700 a month gives you a comfortable life, and 1500 a month a life of luxury with local staff as cook/maid/nanny!

For that you get fresh local fruit all year round, always hot, wonderfully friendly people, and a gateway to Asia for cheap travel.

Unfortunately, I still have to work and am far from retiring!

Bali people are 95% Hindu, and don't like travelling to Muslim Java. However, you are safe in most of Java, especially with a local guide.

David.

Statements like that are hard to swallow for us in flat Essex. I guess it is all relative.

David, two very good sunrise pictures followed by an absolutely amazing and fantastic 3rd. I actually thought more highly of the first two until I saw the last one - like I just said to Andy, it's all relative.
