Soil Cup Tarzetta cupularis

This is a small (ca 10mm) fungus which occurs (mostly) as a solitary fruiting body. This year I have found it three times in compost in flower pots. This third one is unseasonably late but this is because it was in as heated greenhouse (minimum 15C).

It lacks the crystalline appearance of the first one, which was more mature.

Olympus EM-1 (manual mode), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f11 (first) then f14 ISO 800, twin flash hand-held.

The stereos are crosseye.

Here is what it looks like today. This is what happens when a cup tries to form a plate. Not very tidy!

Re: Communal flowers, trees, plants and fungi thread

Parodia horstii

This cactus was flowering in early June.

Also known as Parodia ottonis ssp horstii, it is "Endangered" (IUCN Red List) in its natural habitat (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). The flower can be yellow, orange or red on different plants.

Many decades ago this was in the genus Notocactus, now combined with Parodia. N. ottonis and N. scopa were/are to be found in most amateur collections.

Fortunately, species of Parodia propagate easily from seed.

The stereo is crosseye.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/400 at f8 ISO 250, hand-held.

Harold
