EP5 wifi remote

Does anyone know whether the EP5's wifi functionality be updated to mirror the E-M1's? It would be great if it were. I prefer the separate viewfinder on the ep5 but really want the manual modes in remote control for group shots and self timer type shots.

Cheers,

Vince

Ian - I'm guessing after all this time that the answer is "no"?

Pity - just bought an E- P5 and I must say, the wifi functionality is useless for anything but simple photo sharing for social media. Not what such a high end camera is aimed at IMHO.

It is a pity since they've given the Stylus 1 the full WiFi control similar to the E-M1. With more competition coming from Fuji & their policy of updating older model's firmware, I think Olympus should have another look at their own policies on firmware update content as a means of enticing more buyers to the Olympus systems. But, on the other hand, if buyers thought they might get a bit extra in firmware updates when buying a camera, they might start expecting even more & still be back where we are now. I still think there is room for an occasional addition of a feature (if possible within the limits of processor, memory & hardware) if it can save face on certain models, such as your case, but then I don't know the real technical hurdles that would need to be jumped in these instances.

Re: EP5 wifi remote

Ross - I love my Oly cameras (esp my new E-P5, even with its crippled WiFi). However, I really think their policy of firmware upgrades stinks. Even very minor upgrades don't happen so we have situations such as the E-M5 not supporting simple but really useful features (such as Mysets assignable to the mode dial and small focus points) that later and more basic cameras have (such as the E-PL5 and E-PM2). I really don't think providing an upgrade path would eat much into new camera sales, but it would generate a lot more brand loyalty.

Regarding the E-P5, I'm fairly sure the differences in its capability vs the E-M1 and Stylus (thanks for pointing this out BTW) are firmware related only. I'd be very surprised if the basic radio hardware is any different.

Ah well, I guess we'll just have to live with what Oly throw our way (or swap to Fuji!).
