Iceland

Just spent a week in Iceland, which is an amazing place.

Hired an 11-22mm for the week - great lens, great service. Great price too...

Here are a couple of pics, I've made an album with a couple more, which I'll try to add more to over time.

The weather was variable and the light wasn't always great, but when it was I've never seen anywhere like it.

This shot is of a volcanic crater at Kraftla - the steam is a vent from the powerstation - the whole area is still steaming and very active. The last eruption (from the area in the back of the picture) was in the early 80s. And yes, it really is that colour.

This is a bit different, taken on the south coast, on black beach amongst some very big waves. There is actually no land between this point and Antarctica. The black marks in the sky aren't specks of dust - they're circling fulmars which nest on the cliffs.

Check out the album if you want to see a few more.

Cheers,
Mike

Re: Iceland

What excellent images, it must be an amazing place to visit.

Oh, and the 11-22 is one of my favourites. Did you have to give it back

Re: Iceland

Yep, have to agree with you, Iceland is most certainly on my list of places to visit before I die. I nearly went there a few years ago to see Sigur Ros on a spurr of the moment trip.

It's a photographers paradise.

Re: Iceland

Sadly the 11-22mm had to go back..

I'd heartily recommend going if you have the opportunity. It's not a cheap place, but it's not as bad as you might think.

I've got lots more shots to get through, so will get around to uploading some more. I took mostly jpegs, but switched to raw on a couple of occasions. I correctly decided that while hiking on a glacier, white balance and exposure would be tricky.

Re: Iceland

Nice shot of Krafla and I'm glad to see you had better weather than we had - it was our trip to Iceland where I spent 2 weeks in a tent too low to sit up in that convinced me to get a bigger tent

The location of the 2nd shot looks familiar we went somewhere similar to look at puffins and then got mobbed by Arcic Terns (not my favorite any more)

Regards
Andt

Re: Iceland

We were pretty lucky with the weather really, only had one bad day and even then it was mostly just afternoon/evening. The glaciers seem to make their own weather systems - mostly low cloud and mist.

Here are a couple more, and I've put some more in the gallery too.

My girlfriend nearly trod on this fellow. There were quite a few around, nesting in pools by the side of the road. Saw one with a couple of 'togs about two feet from it, both sporting big white lenses (about a foot long) pointing at it. Seemed kind of overkill to me...

This is in one of the pools by the famous (and crazily expensive) Blue Lagoon.
