Big Canon and old Oly

We had a monthly photo club meeting at church this week. This is a low profile non competitive thing, a "show what you brung" evening.

Afterwards we set out some flowers on tables to have a go at close up/macro/lighting.

Here's my best shot

Taken with my Yongnuo flash, wireless trigger, and a home made diffuser.

Our host provided a set of four 25xLED lights for the smaller items. They actually seem to work quite well, though they are a bit too directional.

Anyway, as usual the conversation turned to gear. He turned up with a Huge full frame Canon. Probably the latest and greatest one with built in non removable grip. He took some pictures at absolute max ISO (somewhere around 400,000 I think) and zoomed in to pixel level. Yes it was noisy but not that bad - and I mean, all that ISO. Wow.

What is 400k ISO like? Well, using the weak ambient lighting in the church hall he had to stop down to f11 to get it off the 1/8000th shutter limit.

How times have moved on eh?

Still, I'm sticking with my old fashioned E-M5 and GX-7.

Well, I think the Canon owner proved without doubt which camera is best and I agree with his choice of exposure settings - after all, if you've got ISO 400,000 why would you not want to use it?

Cracking tulip shot BTW and I also like the shallow DOF from the 12mm lens at f2

Re: Big Canon and old Oly

I bet the Canon man's bank balance was a bit low, and that his muscles were bulging

The tulip shot looks really nice....

ISO 400k is a bit like having a Veyron on the M25

1000 BHP, 2nd gear and 12000 RPM.

Nice shot !

Many thanks :-) I was pleased with the Tulip picture.

The GX-7 and 12mm is a favourite combination. It looks a bit like a Leica to me, but for some scenes 12mm is a bit too wide. Ideally I'd like a 25mm f1.8 with the same push pull focus ring to complete the illusion, but I don't think Oly do one.

The sign is very classy, much more so than 'damaged tat'

Nice shot !

When the M25 was completed there was a certain group of motorcycle journos (and a photog ) who wondered who would be the first person to lap it in an hour. It never got done as far as I know.
