Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

I stopped watching several years ago. To me Clarkson was getting silly and made stupid remarks for the notoriety rather than out oof stupidity/bigotry.

I for one would welcome his never returning to the show. As a petrol head I used to enjoy the show until it became all about the three presenters and nothing about cars.

Heh.
Did he ask for too much money or refuse to apologise for some reasonable comment made into a mountain by the twitterati?

Hopefully he got into a proper fight and will appear next week with black eyes, bruised knuckles and a pending charge.

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

It was only a matter of time.

Top gear needs a total re-vamp as its become predictable and so set up it's getting silly, maybe this will be the catalyst.

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

The only good thing about top gear? It's marginally better than 'Call the Midwife', lol
(I'm guessing of course, I've never watched CtM).

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

Well I for one still enjoyed it even with the silliness. It's like old slippers and I quite like my old slippers!
Wonder what he did? it's pretty sparse in terms of detail on the BBC website.

"We call him the Sig", he says, but we wonder what the Stig calls Clarkson?

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

I used to watch it when (one of my) my daughter would watch it regularly & I did find it a bit embarrassing to watch sometimes with the silliness or awkward situations & I would turn around & spend time on here instead.
She also has a Tomtom with his voice on it & him saying, "I'm bored!"

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

The silly content devalued the show enormously and Clarkson's ever increasing protests of innocence of being misunderstood defied belief and logic.

The current state of affairs has been too long coming but now it's here is most welcome.

Hopefully the show can be restructured and when order is restored, will be back soon in a different format with different presenters and stronger guidelines.

The silliness overpowered everything for me.

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

What a lot of old boring stick in the muds you all are.

TG has some of the most dramatic car shots one can see, the editing skills are most impressive. The mad and stupid adventures the three presenters get up to are filmed with as much skill as a feature film.

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

It's not Clarkson, May and Hammond I don't like, it's cars!

I have to agree Derek - the skills of the camera crew and editing team far outweigh those of all the presenters.

TG has become a laddish bore, centered on the presenters not cars, with desperate attempts to be controversial which were frankly embarrassing, frequently rude and sometimes insulting to other people.

The dinosaur has had its day and hopefully now the programme will evolve and move on.

Horses for courses and all that - I disliked it so much I voted with the off switch.

I did watch one episode on i-player recently just to see Daniel Ricciardo in the Reasonably Priced car but I fast forwarded the rest of the programme as for me, it was just too cringeworthy.

I did think at the time "this programme is even worse than I remember it" and wondered where any editorial controls or quality input were but then again I just assumed I wasn't their target market.

For me the appeal of watching Ricciardo in the show was to firmly put Clarkson and co in the back seat and not let them dominate the show with their laddish behavior and sarcastic comments but that's just me.

It will be interesting to see what happens now

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

Apparently Clarkson "allegedly" punched a producer and all three remaining episodes have now been cancelled.

If true - he can't say he wasn't warned enough times.

Re: NO TOP GEAR - This Sunday...

Well it is quite clear in my contract - physical violence on a colleague will result in dismissal. If this is true he certainly will not have a sympathy from me.

I don't understand the online petition to get him his job back - he allegedly hit someone, I'm sure if the people who signed the petition were thumped at work they would want the other person sacked. Just because it fits into his image "oh it's just the way he is" is no excuse.
