Other Hobbies

I was thinking of doing "something else", for a change! As well as my mains (Photography; Ducati motorbikes).

So I have got into "Lace Making" ! With old fashioned Bobbins!

What are your "other hobbies" ?

and, are you thinking of trying something new ? If so what?

Re: Other Hobbies

I'm into industrial history - old mills, steam engines, that sort of thing. I'm not very knowledgeable, just interested. Partly from a nostalgia point of view - when I worked in't mill as a weaver, when my grandfather was down t'pit.

Thinking of trying candle making - with the price of electric it might just be viable!

Re: Other Hobbies

Well, as my username suggests, I am a little musical. I play several brass instruments - cornet being the number 1, and I particularly enjoy conducting. I am also a massive lover of synthesisers (see avatar pic) and electronic music having three hardware synths that I dabble on regularly. I am not very good on keys, and tend to make the synths do all the work I am also the founder and owner of one of the largest brass discussion sites on the net

Re: Other Hobbies

Wildlife, Geology, Caving and recently Land Rovers, but that's meant to become a means of travel to the others rather than a full blown timefiller of it's own

All of which I bore people about on the forum occasionally

Re: Other Hobbies

My name gives a clue too. I have played classical violin (& a bit of cello) since I was young, then viola when my daughter needed help. Later in life I needed a change (especially from playing viola in orchestras) & discovered Scottish fiddle music. If ya goin' to play Scottish fiddle, well then ya gotta dance too. So, I got into Scottish Country Dancing too, playing for some dance socials in a group (Sydney Scottish Fiddlers). I also repair & sell violins etc (after learning violin making) & also play & have made Celtic styled whistles.

Since playing with cameras (for a couple of years) & spending time on forums, the music & dancing has suffered some. I hope I can get back into it more again. Maybe joining the local photography group this year is not helping.

Re: Other Hobbies

I've got my fingers in too many pies, I have Photography, Mountain Biking, a classic Renault 4, a Renault Master self built camper, and in the winter months I work my Spaniel on local shoots.

I keep saying I am going to reduce my interests, and the Renault 4 will probably end up back at our house in France, and we will be selling the camper to try and reduce the work I have to do to keep on top of things.

Re: Other Hobbies

Photography is my main hobby now - I've had my camera nearly two years now and the obsession isn't going away!

It links in very well with my other hobbies - writing, boating and fishing...

I write a monthly fishing column for a local newspaper, who were looking a different "angle" on the subject and I always publish a trip report with photo's on my favourite angling forum.

The guys are used to me now, so instead of just taking snaps, they're happy to pose and let me try portraits and trophy shots. If anyone catches anything decent there's usually a cry of "JANET!" and I dash round with my camera.

http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/I...-t2441120.html

I do find, however, that I spend more time taking photo's than I do fishing, but it's great how all my hobbies work together.

Re: Other Hobbies

Another vote for Ducatis, in my case a 1977 900GTS; also a Marlin Kit Car.
Apparently I spend too long in the workshop playing with a lathe, milling machine etc and my Landrover needs readying for the MOT (V8 auto Lightweight).

Woodworking and cabinet making, underwater videography, Visual Studio programming, web programming and of course............. SCUBA diving (well that's a sport I guess).

Re: Other Hobbies

As my avatar suggests I am a church bellringer, have been for over 50 years and although I say it myself I am rather good at it.

Also into sailing. We have a small cruising yacht which we sail mainly in the Solent but have been as far afield as Brest. Adagio is the name of the boat.
