It's the water-white optical glass and exotic anti-reflection coatings that have got me interested.

At 70.5 oz it's probably heavy enough to make a doorstop.

hehe... I agree David... but at just £160 it might be worth a bet...! I imagine the quality is dire, but I'd love to see some results from it.

Re: very cheap glass, but boy what a FL...

I looked at a similar lens to this a while ago. I did not purchase it.

Just a quick warning. Due to the size and cost, Customs will probably charge you tax, and the courier company will charge you a fee to collect the tax. This is push the price up quite a bit.

I would be interested to see what they are like to astronomy photography, but otherwise I would rather pay a bit more and get a telescope.(like I already have )

Optics are a real science. In my experience you only ever get what you pay for. I've got a pair of binoculars which looked great in the advert - but in practice are cheap optically and so you never get a really crisp image. But they cost me under £30 so I was happy to take a chance.

This is much more money but as a punt - knowing really how it will probably turn out - it might be worth a bet (depends how much spare dosh you have sloshing around)

As the advertiser says "Your pictures are only as good as the glass in your lens."

I agree, this is probably not a very good lens at all, and you certainly do get what you pay for - especially with glass. Honestly, I am in no way suggesting that people should go out and purchase this lens if they want an excellent quality, high FL lens...

I simply just popped this information into a thread so people can see that this lens is available, and if they have this amount of cash to spare, is possibly worth the risk for a punt!

Re: very cheap glass, but boy what a FL...

Sure, I made a great start to one on PS and LR, but haven't had the chance to complete it yet. I am traveling later this week to Madrid for a few days and will have some time to kill on the flights and at the airport. I hope to be able to do more on the doc then if this is OK.

Sorry to have not completed it yet, I will do so though...

Probably hand-cut from finest quality milk bottles... LOL

I'm most amused they decided to paint it white to look "pro"!

Re: very cheap glass, but boy what a FL...

About the 650-2600mm/650-1300mm. I own 1 and for it's prize it is a good lens. True, you'll get what you pay for but it is in my opinion a nice piece of glass for the prize payed.
Took it to the Florennes Airshow last June and I was very happy I brought it with me! The display line was out of range for my 70-300mm. Luckily I had my 500mm mirror manual lens also with me as well as my 650-1300mm.
Most Canon/Nikon users were complaining that their 100-400mm lacked the range needed to get descend shots.

650mm, f/8, 1/1000sec

650mm, f/8, 1/800sec

650mm, f/8, 1/500sec

All shots in last post where taken handheld with the 650-1300mm. Aperture set on aperture priority and metering mode on spotmetering.
Except for normal PP form RAW to JPG, I didn't use any crop on these photos.

Re: very cheap glass, but boy what a FL...

I think, I would have been satisfied with the last shot. I am surprised that there are no massive chromatic aberrations. However, I think you should get rid of that planet sized rock on your sensor!? I you missed it somehow, it's located half way up, above the F-16's tail fin in your last pic.

Cheers,
Falk
