The point is that it has to be a decisive result. Less than 4% is not decisive. If we had another vote which was still not decisive (it would have to require a margin of at least 60-40 in my opinion, either way) that should be that and the Brexit process adjudged a failure and abandoned.

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

So its down to choices.

1. If we have second referendum and we get the similar close result, what happens next ?

2. If we have a general election and we get Corbyn what will Labour do exactly to solve the issue?

3. If we just cancel Brexit what will happen ?

4. If we just leave what will happen?

Frankly, YES Therein lies the root of the mess we find ourselves in, there is no viable alternative either at present or the foreseeable future.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall any of the politicians objecting to the required majority when the referendum was approved by Parliament.

I was in the UK for 6 months this year and not back in the UK until 3 July next year, by which time Theresa May will still be prime minister and her dream of Brexit will be on course. I haven’t seen any pigs flying over today. Thank you for your very kind thoughts

I heard somewhere the majority to win was discussed in the House of Lords. Unsure of the source or how it was decided...

Answers on a postcard

Several politicians yesterday voiced the opinion that it was just down to a straight leave with no deal or remain, and I agree that it's just down to either of these that's the most likely outcome.

If we do leave without a deal, there will be no Irish 'backstop' because that's part of 'the deal'. I understand that there's a legal requirement independent of membership of the E.U. to maintain the Good Friday Agreement, but I can't see how we can be outside of the E.U. and not have a hard land border with an E.U. member state. Vague references to 'technical solutions' are mentioned, without a hint of what form these may be.

I must say that I was impressed with TM's performance yesterday. Her speech flowed well and she only paused to let the heckling die down. I also see that she's managed to control the 'gurning', which was never a good look and made her the butt of cartoonists. So she's off now to the E.U. to get some turd polish! It must be deeply humiliating for her - E.U. politicians will look at her and think 'we didn't expect to see you again, are you still P.M. then?'
