Kowa Super 66 Medium Format Film Camera plus 4 Lenses

FOR SALE: Kowa Super 66 Medium Format Film Camera, takes 12 6x6cm suare images on a roll of 120 film. Complete with waist level finder plus magnifier, two film backs and 55mm, 85mm, 150mm and 250mm lenses, instruction manual and a bag to carry it all.

Complete kit only 150, plus 15 insured postage (UK only)

This is a fantastic opportunity to try medium format film photography at a rock-bottom price. The kit is in full workibg order but it is tatty, as described in detail in an article I had published in the "Me and My Camera" series in Amateur Photographer magazine, November 2003. I have scanned the full article and uploaded to my Zenfolio site if you wish to read it.

In the article I mention that the lenses had been badly abused by a previous owner. It's actually not easy to get the damage to show clearly in photographs of the lenses, but here is a specific description of each.

55mm f3.5 Moderate wide-angle lens. Front element in very good condition, but rear element covered extensively in light, not deep, scratches.

85mm f2.8 Standard lens. Front element very good, but rear element has a large patch where the coating has worn off.

150mm f3.5 Short telephoto lens. Front element has numerous light (not deep) scratches in a mainly circular direction. Light scratches, less numerous, on rear element.

250mm f5.6 Medium telephoto lens. Both front and rear elements surprisingly good and pretty much scratch free. However, there appears to be some internal hazing or blooming on the outer periphery of the front element. This does show in photographs as noticable loss of contrast which progressively improves as the lens is stopped down, disappearing by f16 (minimum aperture of lens is f32).

Apart from the 250mm, none of the damage to these lenses seems to show any effect in photographs, even when taking into the light. Photographs of the kit to follow in next post.

Re: Kowa Super 66 Medium Format Film Camera plus 4 Lenses

Potential buyers within reasonable travelling distance are welcome to visit, or I can meet half way. This will save you the postage cost, which is quite high due to the weight of the complete kit. Also it will give you the chance to inspect the kit and try it before buying and I can demonstrate the operation of the camera, which is a little cumbersome. I have several rolls of 120 Velvia which are several years out of date (but they have been stored in the fridge) and if nothing else they will be useful for practice in loading the backs.

Hehe, I can easily scan to 25mp (5000 x 5000) or bigger, but file sizes start getting rather large, especially if I save as a tif, so I tend to scan to what I actually need.

I thought that to begin with but if you go to page 2, 4, 5 etc it is actually quite readable.
