Re: I'm at the big Olympus Photokina launch!

Three small things look good to me - backup settings (at last), proper battery meter (at last) and flippy screen so we can get rid of the permanent glow that came in with the E-M1 mark 1 (an irritant to me as I take photos in dark concert venues and don't want to piss the audience off).

It all looks rather nice. I hope we will have a chance to come along and try it, Oly UK have a pretty good track record on that so I will keep fingers crossed.

Re: I'm at the big Olympus Photokina launch!

Looks like a fantastic camera, but I've not seen anything official (i.e. no mention of it on the Olympus website specifications) regarding backwards compatibility with the older 4/3 lenses.

Re: I'm at the big Olympus Photokina launch!

What they call Pro Capture is really precapture, but a name doesn't matter, because the feature should be useful.

Absolutely. These seemingly trivial usability tweaks matter in real use and were always on my wish list for this camera.

Of course the new sensor and massively improved AF are also exceedingly welcome and will make a difference but making it that bit nicer to use is nearly as important to me.

Re: I'm at the big Olympus Photokina launch!

The shutter is much more refined and quiet than Mark 1 - much like the E-M5 Mk II.
The 18fps mode (C-AF recording RAW) is using electronic (silent) shutter mode. The conventional shutter is probably still 10fps.

I've published an initial report with some launch photos here:

Only one is UHS-II speed though. My feeling is that the main use would be to record RAW to one and JPEG to the other.

I have a meeting with Toshi Terada booked for Thursday so if there are any more questions you'd like me to ask...

Thanks for the opportunity, Ian.

If you have time, could I ask a very specific one related to my beef about the glowing screen on the Mark I please? With the E-M1 Mark 1, it is possible to drive the camera without using the rear screen at all. With eye detect set on, we can compose, access the basic controls and review images through the viewfinder. This is useful to me as I often shoot in dark venues like concert halls, where doing stuff on the back screen can be a distraction for the audience.

Will we still be able to do this with the Mark 2?

And a couple of subsidiary questions about the new battery:

1. Is it physically compatible with the BLN-1? Obviously using a BLN-1 would not give the performance advantages, and I am expecting the answer to be that no it isn't. But it would be nice for those of us with a stack of old batteries if we could use them in emergency.

2. The blurb says that we have a proper battery charge percentage gauge in the camera. Hooray and thank you - at last! Will we also have an indicator on the charger? It is useful to have it on both.

Thanks ... John

Will there be any enhancements to OIShare and Capture that relate to the Mk2

Can you extract, in camera, a still frame from the 4k video

Thanks
