How do you convert EM5-II RAW files to EM1 RAW?

Hi,

Whilst waiting for adobe to update camera RAW with the new EM5-II a member mentioned on another thread that you could use a program to convert the files so that they open as though they're for the EM1, but I can't remember who and where this was posted? So could someone answer advise me what this program is please and how to convert the RAW/ORF files?

Cheers, Toby

Hi Toby,

I think the software you're looking for is Adobe DNG converter, good news is it's free available for Win & Mac .

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/digital-negative.html

That should sort your problem out whilst you wait for Adobe Camera Raw to be updated.

DNG converter doesn't work unfortunately, it says no supported RAW files contained in the folder. I guess the DNG converter uses adobe camera raw as well.

I think I'v found the software, it's called EXIFtool but it looks a bit complicated. I'll look into it properly tomorrow.

I guess I could open them in Olympus viewer and export as TIFF? Not sure if you can, but I'd have thought so. Will try later.

Re: How do you convert EM5-II RAW files to EM1 RAW?

Lightroom 6 will be released in a couple of weeks along with a new ACR for LR & Photoshop CC there should be an update supporting EM5 MK 2. I'm surprised the DNG didn't work, 16 bit Tiffs should be an excellent compromise though. Best of luck it always seems to take a few weeks for these updates to be included in ACR.

You can but they are enormous (95.6MB). I am sure adobe et al will get there in a month or two. In the meantime store the RAW files and enjoy the jpegs. Glad the camera is OK.

Yeah, I've had to use TIFFs before, but I've plenty of storage for the short time

Re: How do you convert EM5-II RAW files to EM1 RAW?

If Adobe drag their heels on this I do know for sure that DXO pro 10 will support EM5 MK 2 raw from 15th May 2015. BTW DXO is an awesome software lots of great features that other raw converters have don't have. Sometimes it's good to add another string to the bow to make life easy.

In my experience adobe aren't that slow, I don't remember waiting long for my EM10, and they were very quick for my D750.

Re: How do you convert EM5-II RAW files to EM1 RAW?

The E-M5ii raw files are seemingly identical to the E-M5 files (at least so far as LR is concerned). So, if you change the EXIF to say that they're from an E-M5, then they work (I've personally done this and it works). You'll need a tool called Exiftool. Find it with Google and install it. It's a command line tool and if you do this:

C:\>Exiftool -model=E-M5 P1000023.ORF

Then it will make the Exif change (keeping the original one renamed). You can then use LR on the modified ORF.

I think Exiftool is available for the Mac too - but you will need to use the terminal. I don't have a Mac so can't directly help - sorry!
