South Australian Outback - No1

It is said that we South Aussies live in the driest state in the driest country in the world. Consequently we show a lot of interest in the rainfall.
This winter our area has received below average, but in the north of our state they have had heavy falls.
This transforms our sandy desert plains into quite different scenery.
We decided to take a quick 6 day trip into our outback for a look.
I hope you enjoy some of the shots I will post.
For portability I limited myself to the two E-M5 kit lenses.

After travelling about 300kms north we leave agricultural land and enter the Outback Country.
Usually dry and barren, it comes to life after rain. The stations are huge, sheep grazing, and no fences at all - or flimsy, like this one.
Driving can be hazardous with wandering stock, roos and emus to look out for.

The usually dry salt lakes take on a different beauty with water in them.

The rain turns the red sand to mud and you leave the bitumen at your risk. Most outback roads were closed during our visit.

As we continue further north the colours change and we enter red sand dune country.

This is a very cool set of landscapes indeed, Lyn - especially #2 which looks much like the lake at Locheil-("Nessie"). You have captured the immensity and simple beauty of the Outback after some rain.

I'm longing to return to the Centre but presently that is on hold.

Great series Lyn.

It's good to see pics of places I've long thought of visiting.

Very interesting pics and commentary Lyn, not the sort of scene I associate with Australia, thanks for the education!

Thanks for commenting Mark, Dave & B/torque.
The Stuart Highway through our Centre gets a lot of attention as folk stream north, but I am hoping to show you a taste of the real outback in a part of our state that I think is quite fascinating. Hope you enjoy the trip.
