Specsavers is a Franchise I think. I had rubbish service from a local branch, went to another local branch and cannot complain.

Strangely, since then it got worse! I had to chase them to see if they were actually going to turn up and was told the optometrist had a flat tyre!
Didn’t know about it being a franchise, kinda surprised but then again nothing surprises me nowadays.

Yes; Specsavers is a franchise, and a very slippery slops of spending in my experience.

How does a pair of simple reading glasses morph into varifocals with anti-scratch, anti-glare lenses and goodness knows what else costing close to three hundred quid?

Re: In praise of...............

But you don’t buy reading glasses from Specsavers surely? You get the free prescription and toddle off to Superdrug or wherever and pick the ones for £2.99 off the turny-round rack.

My prescription distance glasses cost £9.99 online which included anti glare, anti scratch coatings and P&P. My wife paid the sum of £1.99 for her reading glasses. Both of us perfectly happy with the purchases.

A relative however insists on paying £180 for reading glasses because "the staff at the local opticians are so pleasant and friendly". As in most things, it's simply a matter of choice how you spend your money or waste it

As I say, Specsavers is a slippery slope of spending.

Yes; but the problem is that Specsavers don't advertise the fact that their hearing aids cost £3,000 or that a pair of varifocals cost £300 or so.

They lure customers in with the promise of low cost and quick service on what are essential health services, but then ramp the cost up by 'adding value' as they say. Its just like the fancy polish, GAP insurance and allow wheel insurance you didn't know you needed when you bought a new car.

In short its all about parting us with money we hadn't planned on spending.
