Site changes - some, hopefully, minor interruptions this week

Long overdue, but I will be adding SSL security (EDIT: now completed) to the forum and gallery this week.

There will be some short periods when the site is not accessible, apologies in advance. I will warn anyone online closer to the time.

You may need to re-enter passwords as auto-passwords in browsers is unlikely to recognise https:// urls to start with - again, sorry about that!

No other fundamental functionality should be affected at this time.

Thanks everyone!

Ian

Re: Site changes - some, hopefully, minor interruptions this week

Right, our hosting company jumped the gun slightly and enabled https before I was ready at my end - never mind; I'll work as fast as I can to sort the loose ends!

Apologies for any weirdness on the site for a little while!

Re: Site changes - some, hopefully, minor interruptions this week

Glad you aren't having bother but you may be seeing https warnings even though the pages load normally. This is because some links are hard-coded as http:// urls. I'm weeding these out as I can find them.

Re: Site changes - some, hopefully, minor interruptions this week

There are still a couple of elusive urls that force warnings but the forum and gallery now, on the whole, behave properly.

I'll continue the bug fixes though.

Re: Site changes - some, hopefully, minor interruptions this week

At the moment the portal page (the main default site home page) shows a low level warning for 'insecure passive content'. This is because a thumbnail image from the gallery is shown at random at the top of the left hand side of the home page and that image is shown using a http:// url instead of a https:// url. I haven't yet been able to fix this bug but it does not represent a threat.

Please refer to:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...urce=inproduct

The gallery thumbnail is put there using some custom code written some time ago and I am trying to get the original writer to see if he can work out why the https:// url format is not being respected.

Some other pages may also be flagged as partially insecure because of old http:// image urls in posts pointing to external sites. There is nothing I can do about that as far as I know.

The bottom line message is that despite a few minor glitches the site is now ssl compliant. I will continue to seek solutions to the known issues.

Ultimately, we will switch to vBulletin 5. I've done this on Four Thirds User but that installation still needs some work done to it before I will be happy enough to use it as a template for the e-group site here.

Re: Site changes - some, hopefully, minor interruptions this week

Interesting - the gallery thumbnail code hasn't been changed and now the thumbnails appear to be SSL compliant - weird, but I'm not complaining!

It might have been a caching issue.
