Re: Transport

Innovative idea but the I'm guessing peak flow throughput is not high.

Re: Transport

An interesting beast. There are a few of them left - I'm not sure whether the one in Newport is back in operation (the only other one ever built in the UK, as far as I am aware without checking). The one in Bilbao is thriving, the one in Marseille has long since disappeared but I think it's memory lives on in a street name or something.

Nice viewpoint for the third shot, puts it into context well and it looks in good health.

Re: Transport

Transporter bridges have always intrigued me but there aren't many left in the world now. The Newport one is up and running, I visited it just a couple of years ago, and there is a unique rail transporter bridge in Warrington which a voluntary group is trying to preserve. There used to be one connecting Runcorn and Widnes but it was dismantled some time ago. I think the Middlesbrough one is the largest remaining in the UK.

Re: Transport

It's a great construction, fascinating to watch in operation. I went a few times when my son was at University there. Love that last shot with the reflection.

Re: Transport

I thought the Middlesborough bridge had been sold to a tribe of Native Americans to give access to a casino on the other side of a canyon. In fact I met up with Timothy Spall in New Mexico he was obviously checking up on their work.
