The Photography Show: other new gear

Thought it might be of interest to have a thread covering some of the other new gear at the show, especially those only available on one stand.

Ricoh GRIII - only on the Wex stand I believe, and Pentax-Ricoh don’t have their own booth. This has only been out a couple of days - it’s even smaller than the II and much faster in operation for real-life street photography and it seems to focus better even in the dim light in the hall.

Panasonic S series. Only on the Panny stand as far as I can see. Lovely in the hand, with what seems to be excellent ergonomics and it feels bullet proof. I had a really good tryout of the EVF, and it’s fantastic, probably the best I’ve ever played with, even with glasses. However body and lenses are large and _extremely_ heavy. Holding it in my hand tells me this camera system basically has nothing to do with m4/3 with the single exception of the M1X, and that purely on size & weight grounds - they are not in the same market in reality.

Anyone spotted anything else?

Someone posted on DPReveiew that LCE are doing a G9 deal - Body plus 12-60 f2.8-4 plus 200mm f2.8 + TC for £2299. That's quite a deal. I'm not interested, but that 200mm f2.8 is tasty and is £1500 RRP alone.

I'm informed that Analogue Wonderland are doing 'show deals' on film, also on the lovely Lomography 400CN which is back in stock. (Apparently, Lomo 400CN is the discontinued Kodak Gold 400).

I believe the deal also includes a grip and genuine Panasonic battery as well. That is amazing. Why on earth would anybody purchasing m43 gear choose the expensive Olympus options instead?

Well, the G9 is nice in some ways, but it's still butt ugly!

Seriously though, you're right. This is sort of equivalent to the EM1.2 plus 12-40 plus 40-150 plus TC plus grip plus additional battery for £2299. I reckon if you bought that lot, even at show prices you'd be at £3.5k. I personally wouldn't run Panasonic gear because of poor after sales, but if you were switching that G9 deal would be hard to resist.

Thereís a Lomography stand at the show, in fact, but although I had a look at some of their gear I didnít notice if they were selling film.
