E-M1 ii & 12-40 for £850

Just seen this on EBay and succumbed. Can't see any indication (apart from the low price) to suggest it's not genuine. Can be returned for up to 14 days (buyer pays postage). I'd been considering a used E-M1 ii anyway if/when the price is right. Assuming all is well with it, I might be offering a brand new 12-40 for sale here or elsewhere ...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Olympus-O...72.m2749.l2649

Incidentally is there anything I should inspect it for specifically when I get it? I guess the shutter count of course, and visual inspection. Any kind of checks to make sure it's not a "second" or something? Some kind of sensor check? I'm guessing it may be a grey import and so no warranty. I chose not to send these questions to the seller in case it sold in the meantime.

Hmmmm ... now got a message from the seller saying:

"Hi, sorry for the inconvenience paypal address as to where make the payment is xxxxxxxx@gmail.com, best regards"

Beginning to sound dodgy ...

Dodgy not the word. Fraud is the better choice. Don't pay outside of PayPal unless you want to lose your money. I think you should report it to Paypal.

Re: E-M1 ii & 12-40 for £850

I did question it with EBay (rather than Paypal) and they advised not to pay that way. It sounded dodgy. Thanks for confirmation.

As ever if the price sounds too good to be true it probably is. I wonder where he got all his good feedback from ...

Looks doggy to me too hope it all goes well. The feedback looks a bit suspect too as there are many duplicate entries at differing prices often from the same person. Fingers crossed for you we are wrong and it all works out.

Now seems a good moment to make a modest donation to this site. Grateful for advice (though I was also suspicious of my own accord).

(And no-one called me an idiot either! :-) )

Not all "too good to be true" offers are too good to be true. I've found a couple of genuinely under-priced bargains on EBay before; on one occasion from a pawnbroker who obviously didn't know what he had. They offered a used carbon fibre tripod for a reasonable price, but not realising that the geared head on it was worth as much as the tripod. I zoomed into the photos to be sure what I was seeing and then bought it.

ONLY pay to a PayPal address identified by eBay in the sale info generated by them!

If they ask you to pay to a different email address, report them to eBay and PayPal.

I've had some genuine bargains in the past too. Discipline and patience is the name of the game.

I've just asked if it would be possible to pick it up and pay cash. This usually flushes them out into the open! I'll report back

But don't be tempted to go and meet them!

No, the auction has ended. I was still able to contact them though.
