I'm inspired by Steve's interest in pure mono.

Here's a mono of mine but taken in colour originally. I'd like to understand how a pure mono image would differ

That is a nice image Ian, with a lot of grey detail.

A pure black and white image would not work in my view as you would lose the greys altogether. Everything would either be black or white; like a poster print.

I'm sorry - it was definitely a mistake to post this here. In a separate discussion about aspirations for an un-announced new Olympus camera, Steve (I think) expressed an interest in an Olympus version of a monochrome (full tone) sensor, like the Leica Monochrom.

Try running a copy through the office photocopier or printing with a B&W laser. That will give you a better idea of what pure B&W would look like.
