Hastings Direct Car Insurance.

I changed my car insurance to Hastings Direct ("Refreshingly straightforward insurance") a couple of months ago, and now they are requesting:

"Copies of all drivers licences - Please provide us with clear copies of the front and back of your photo card and counterparts for all drivers named on the policy.
A copy of the vehicle registration form (log book/v5)- Please provide us with a copy of all pages of your vehicle registration form (V5/logbook)."

I've emailed them back asking why they need this, when I've never been asked for this information before in over 50 years of driving.

I've also pointed out that the DVLA no longer issue 'counterpart' licences!

Has anyone else had this sort of information request from a car insurance company?

Jim

Re: Hastings Direct Car Insurance.

Mmmmmmm everything you would need to clone your car, and be able to convince the police it was yours if ever pulled over........ Very fishy

They may have a claim pending against that registration and want to see which car is genuine.

Re: Hastings Direct Car Insurance.

How did you get the initial request? (If email or phone it might be a scam)

If you do send copies, make sure you send it to the address on the Insurance certificate.

We were all required to destroy our paper counterparts on 8 June. You should not have one.

Sounds like a scam to me, possible identity theft?

Re: Hastings Direct Car Insurance.

I was insured with Hastings Direct No More after they attempted to rip me off with the renewal. It was over 100 more than there own website quoted. Went to Adrian Flux same cover a lot cheaper and good service.

Re: Hastings Direct Car Insurance.

I just change every year, its inevitable I can get a cheaper quote if I can be bothered to use a comparison site. I don't even bother to ring the insurance company that I'm with, I just get the quote and leave and ring them to tell them so. Loyalty gets you nothing with these providers on the whole.

Re: Hastings Direct Car Insurance.

We switched to Admiral two years ago and have found their UK call centre staff very easy to deal with. Their prices are also competitive.

We were previously with Norwich Union or whatever they call themselves now. Many people complain about their Indian call centres, but I quite liked them as the Indians are far more willing to haggle than UK call centre staff who just say "computer says no."
