Not sure about mono. Verticals need correcting though.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

Yeah, somebody elsewhere picked up on the verticals as well - strange how I never see these things in my own work but pick it up instantly in anyone else's....

The colour really didn't do it for me, no matter what I tried.....

Re: Seat, Anyone?

Hi Derek,
I have looked at this one for a long time thinking about it.
I love the mono and think it would have more impact than colour as the seat is the star.
But what I don't like is the figure on the right. I guess you wanted him there for perspective, but my eye is led into the photo beautifully by the seat and then dragged to him afterwards.
Just my feelings on looking at the scene.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

I too love the mono result and agree that the figure (right foreground) is a distraction. I think cropping him out leaving a squarish format and tweaking the verticals would work better. There are plenty of other people in the picture (less dominant) to give perspective.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

It think it is down to the figure right. He is facing the wrong way...With my 20:20 retrospective o'scope, he needed to be walking towards you and as he looked to see what you were up to was the time to hit the shutter... stick with the mono!

Yes I agree. The mono treatment IMO hasn't worked here.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

Thanks to all - I'll maybe have another crack at a colour version if I get time - the guy on the right stood there for what seemed like forever, so I just had to take what I got as my other half was complaining about being too hot.... and here we are home now with 4" of snow today! I'm sure she'll soon be complaining about it being too cold....

Re: Seat, Anyone?

I echo what has already been said but would like to add that the mono conversion has brought out the grain patterns of the wooden benches very nicely. Shame about the guy just standing there - if he'd parked his bum on about the 4th bench in it would have been much more helpful! The benches do make a great leading line and with that lens have created a dynamic perspective, it's just a shame they are not leading to anything in particular.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

I just noticed I did take another one but was holding the camera higher at the time, but at least the guy isn't in it and I've cloned out the long shadow (content-aware fill) behind where he was standing! Still not daft on the colour for some reason.... and yes, this one is straight, photoshop told me so....

Re: Seat, Anyone?

I agree with the mono. The colour is messy especially the red off to one side.
I also wonder if, as well as correcting the verticals, a little bit of lens distortion correction might help.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

I'd like to see this last one in mono, as the red parasols are a bit distracting now.

Ideally, I'd have liked to have seen the two guys that are on the second bench on the right hand side on the first bench in stead (closer) or the long bench line leading somewhere.

Re: Seat, Anyone?

A good few people on another forum have come back to me and said they find distortion with the 14mm F2.5 a problem when used on an Olympus body.....
