Murder on the Orient Express

On learning that the train would be making a private run for a pro photographer to shoot images for a Murder on the Orient Express promotion staged by the Victorian Goldfields Railway to attract tourists,
Sandra and I had waited at this location for over two hours and were about to walk away when Sandra's acute hearing heard a distant, yet unmistakable blast of a steam train.

Being a gentleman, the pro photographer kept his foot on the ladder and his eyes averted ...

... but then what more would you expect of a Canon shooter ...

SWD 12-60 + adapter, 1/400, F5.6, EV -0.7, ISO 800, 26mm

Well I must give him credit for being professional, he conducted his shoot very well and used a radio telephone to instruct the train exactly when and where he wanted it moved.

The murder weapon used to shoot intrusive photographers is finally produced!

My own shoot throughout (both series) was conducted with the M1.2 + SWD 12-60mm F.2.8 with adapter.

That murder weapon looks like a pipe to me Mark. Nice bit of snooping on the professionals. The old paparazzi skills coming in very handy.

I'm betting that you did better than the 'pro' tog with some of these (and previously shown) shots.

For the sake of the passengers who took the 'Murder on Express' train excursion that Saturday evening, the gun was doubtless intended to be seen as a harmless prop. I enjoy being a paparazzo!

Thanks Keith, that's a kind assumption.

Thanks OM. He reminded me of my own pro days. He managed his shoot professionally.

#1 is another fine shot.

You must lookout for the official publicity material when it appears on the web, just to show you did a better job!

Re: Murder on the Orient Express

Thanks Beag', I will keep a lookout for any stuff that toger took. Easily recognised by his models.
Hardly a fair comparison to say that I did a better job.
That said, the images displayed on your links are woefully composed against some tacky backdrops and bad lighting.
His assignment was fundamentally different, focusing on his models; mine was on the train.
Wishing I'd had the 12-100 pro for my pap' shots instead of SWD 12-60.

It is an amazing lens, but you still have to know where to point it.

Too true. The extra reach 0f the 12-100 would make it a perfect pap lens.
$1429 .... Thinks .... ...

Re: Murder on the Orient Express

That sounds pretty expensive Mark. There was a second hand one on here recently for a good price. I got mine off Henry when he visited the UK a while ago now and to be honest have rarely taken it off the camera. It's a bit on the heavy side but the images have made up for that inconvenience.

Re: Murder on the Orient Express

No i hadn't realised quite what the aussy dollar exchange rate is. Just looked it up and that price you found would be a real bargain if it was in the UK. Less than I paid Henry for his secondhand actually! and I thought that was a bargain. Don't regret it one bit though it is my most used lens.

Buy a bunch of them when you visit Oz and flog them at a profit when you get home (assuming that post-Brexit anyone can afford anything!).
Digi direct is a reputable seller. Sandra and I bought our XZ-2's and other stuff from them way back.
More recently I bought the fish from them at the best price in Melbourne.
I like to buy over the counter, not online. Digidirect's price on their website is $1429 (798 GBP).
Edit: Apologies, you are right, they've reduced it (678 GBP) since last time I looked!

What I would like to know is, had I used the 12-100 on #3 and #5 at the same FL's,
how much cleaner/sharper (if any) would those insets have been?
For instance, in inset #3 would the camera brand have been cleaner?
