Scanner Needed

Hi All

I have a need to digitise a number of old family photographs and my old HP scanner had died. Other than this project, my scanner needs are few and far between but now that I have an XA-2, I may find it useful to be able to scan negatives. So the choice is probably a flatbed, cheap & cheerful but good enough or possibly something with holders for film as well.

Any suggestions welcomed, thanks

David

Re: Scanner Needed

Have you thought of a multi function machine? This would give you a stand by printer or one for text to save good photo printing ink. Can be quite cheap and the same standard of scanner as a stand alone.

Re: Scanner Needed

Assuming maximum size A4 is ok I would suggest Epson Perfection V370 Photo might suit your needs. It can be had for about for around £80. I have a V350 which is a predecessor and have been very pleased with it.

Thanks for this, I have a competent printer so don't think that I'll go down the all-singing-all-dancing route.

Re: Scanner Needed

I originally had a Canon FS2700 (I think), although the quality was truly excellent, it suffered from dust etc appearing on the scan. Although you can use various software to get rid of it, I eventually sold it and bought a s/h Canon FS4000 with ICE built in. This was a jump in convenience and the end results were great.

However, it is quite a time consuming chore although I have longed to get out my old OM1 and try some film again. Its always fun trying to explain to my son how expensive film photography was (and is), and how you were restricted to 36 exposures. Kids! They just dont know the half of it?

Re: Scanner Needed

My son-in-law passed me an old HP Scanjet 4670. Unfortunately, he can't find the driver which must have been deposed of together with his office old PC. If anyone has the said driver, I would be grateful if he/she can email me a copy. Thanks.
My current printer-cum-scanner, Canon Pixma MG 6270 can't do film/slide scanning.

Re: Scanner Needed

Thanks. I tried accessing the link you gave but it returned the message, "This page can't be displayed". Maybe your link mentioned UK but I am in Malaysia.
I also accessed the HP website & under its Driver Download, my scanner was listed. I clicked on the relevant scanner & the same message appeared.
This is an old scanner & it's possible HP have taken the driver off their website.

Re: Scanner Needed

About what I'd expect from HP. I e-mailed them about a driver issue with one of their scanners in the 90's and got such an unhelpful and rude reply I haven't considered any of their products since.

Re: Scanner Needed

I can access it, but it takes you to the next level of menu which is the OS. As I proceeded it lists old OS's such as Win2000, Win ME etc. I am happy to download and email to you if you let me know which OS you intend to run it on. I am guessing Win2000 is the one if you intend to use Win7/8
