Re: Olympus redesigns 75-300mm MFT Lens

Yup, smaller and cheaper - and hopefully with no compromises in other areas as the original 75-300 is an excellent performer.

That sounds good and surprisingly it is now cheaper than the Panasonic 100-300. Of course it will now come complete with a lens hood and storage pouch .....

I hope it's sharp wide open given it's close to being diffraction limited at the short end and past at the long end.

Re: Olympus redesigns 75-300mm MFT Lens

I really would like an mft tele lens but I can't work up the enthusiasm for any on the market. Oh for something like the 4/3 Olympus 50-200mm F2.8-3.5 which I found to be an excellent performer.

All the present offerings seems so aperture limited.

Hardly! SRS quotes the Panasonic at 429. Until recently there was a 50 cashback and I got mine from WEX for 369 net.

Sorry, I was simply basing that on the price on the Panasonic website (560.99). I agree that nobody pays that with the discounts available. It remains to be seen what prices the new Olympus lens will actually be sold at.

Re: Olympus redesigns 75-300mm MFT Lens

It would appear that the 75-300 II is priced to undercut the Panasonic 100-300. And for E-M5 users in particular, remember that you can't shoot sequentially at the full 9fps because the 100-300 is too slow for the camera.

The Mk1 is certainly sharp at the long end wide open:

m.Zuiko 75-300, @300mm, f/6.7, 1/1000th, hand held, IS1 set. This crop is 3 megapixels from the 16 megapixel frame. Processed in Lightroom 4 from a camera JPEG.

Re: Olympus redesigns 75-300mm MFT Lens

I might have been tempted to trade in my 100-300mm for one had it been weather sealed to go with the OM-D. Looks like it will be staying on the dealer's shelf from my point of view.
