OM 50mm f/1.4

Optically OK but the diaphragm is a little sluggish. However, this lens works fine stopped down manually on an adapter to 4/3rds.

First to offer 10 inc. postage gets it, if anyone wants it.

Yes I got a 1.8 for 10 but a 1.4, echo definitely a bargain shame I was too late.

Re: OM 50mm f/1.4

Lens sold folks.

Like I said, the lens is optically sound but the diaphragm is sluggish, hence the low price.

Didn't stop a well known dealer from selling it to me though and perhaps I should have sent it back immediately. However, when I rang them and said that I was visiting London that weekend, they suggested 'put on your boxing gloves and we can argue about it'. A little internet research led me to understand that the owners are, er, well known for being difficult so I didn't bother.

However, the lens performed OK and the diaphragm action doesn't appear to have deteriorated. So yes, it may be a bargain.

Perhaps you can be persuaded to give a view in the Dealers' Den board so that we can be forewarned (or even forearmed)!

Re: OM 50mm f/1.4

In a short OM lens foray a while back I discovered the sluggish iris problem is widespread.

Pick up a lens which has this problem. Get out your watchmakers screwdrivers and remove the mount carefully. Find the sliding mechanism inside that works the aperture when you press the little button. This has probably got polluted with traces of oil that have gone sticky. Clean the oil off with isoprop alcohol and let it dry. Reassemble dry and you have a nice working OM lens

Re: OM 50mm f/1.4

Interesting...in the thirty years I have purchased and used OM Zuiko's, I have never come across the sluggish diaphragm problem. I still use around ten of them and they are all fine.
