Unhappy Sad news from me - An Update

Those of you who remember when I was active in this forum (I've now gone onto another system) may recall mention and photos of my constant companion, Dibnah the Jack Russell.

Well, a week ago today we had to make the tough decision to have her put to sleep. She was suffering from kidney failure.

We got Dibnah from the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home back in January 2010 when we lived in Scotland. She had been handed in as a stray, at about 18 months old, but had been kept there for a succession of operations until she was deemed fit to be rehomed. We never knew her history before that, but can only presume that she original came from an English home, as she had been docked. Back then, docking unless for medical reasons was illegal in Scotland but not in England. Anyway, we enjoyed almost 6 years of bliss with her, she accompanying us on all our UK holidays and only being separated once when we visited Australia. Her sudden kidney failure came as a complete shock to us earlier this week, although looking back with hindsight she may have had problems for a very long time, but well-masked. But we could not see her suffer - that is a luxury we have with our pets which we do not have with our human fellows.

We fully intend to rescue another JR as soon as the right one finds us and adopts us.

Re: Sad news from me

So sorry to read this, Stephen, I know how much Dibnah meant to you. You have done the right thing in ending her suffering, I only wish that the same could be done for me when the time comes.

Let us know when another JR finds you, in the meantime I wish you the best Christmas possible under these sad circumstances. At least you have many happy memories and photographs of Dibnah.

Re: Sad news from me

So sorry to hear that Stephen I know how much she meant to you and can truly sympathise with you.

I Know it is sad that their lifespans are shorter than ours but think of it this way it allows us to experience unconditional love more than once in our lifetime.I'm sure you will eventually find a JR not to replace but fill your life once again.

Re: Sad news from me

Sad news Stephen, it is never an easy decision to take but equally rarely if ever is it the wrong one. I know you will have many fond memories and equally as many photographs of your 'faithful friend' that will make you smile and help to ease the sadness you must be feeling.

You may not have had Dibnah for many years but from all the posts you used to contribute here it was/is clear that she was much loved and a better home she could not have wished for. So when the next 'right one' comes along she/he will be a very lucky dog indeed and I am sure will become another 'faithful friend' in return.

Wishing you and your family the Merriest Christmas possible ( under these sad circumstances ) and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Kindest regards, Simon
