Happy birthday and lens hoods

I woke up today to a nice happy birthday mail from the forum which was nice. Being a special birthday (40th) my family all got together to and helped me buy the Olympus 60mm macro which will be arriving tomorrow. I'm very excited!

I want to buy a lens hood without spending 50 quid on the official one. Does anyone have any recommendations? I saw a JJC hood on eBay that looks good, anyone with experience of this or any other?

Thanks in advance

Many Happy Returns!

I would certainly recommend using a lens hood to minimise glare. I bought the JJC lens hood for my Olympus 12-50mm zoom and am quite happy with it. It fits well and seems a good quality plastic. In fact it fits better than the Olympus hood does on my 45mm lens! (The design is modelled on the Olympus lens hood and so there should be no difference as far as the shading is concerned.)

Happy birthday and lens hoods

Happy Birthday. I use a JJC lens hood on my 12mm,it's a slightly tight fit but other than that its a decent piece of kit for the price. Jim.

Happy Birthday. When mine comes around I'm hoping my present will be the announcement of new fast zooms from Olympus... and maybe getting one the year after whne they finally hit the streets.

Re: Happy birthday and lens hoods

Happy Birthday David.

I bought a vented lens hood for my M.ZD60 macro lens which allows the Focus Assist Light to shine on the subject where other hoods block it. This is it.

The JJC lens hood is fine for the 12-50mm lens & now I have found they make one for this lens too, so I'm ordering it too.

Re: Happy birthday and lens hoods

JJC it is then, thank you everybody for your advice and kind wishes.

The lens arrived today, wonderfully small and light compared to my previous Canon 100mm macro. Took a few test photos with it and am very please with the results

Currently trying to work out the best solution for flash, trying to balance a nice light and nimble solution vs a bracket and off camera flash. The Olympus RC flash setup works nicely with the flash just off the camera which is good. However I found holding a bracket and the OM-D very hard work (I sold my grip), so I'm trying a few different options. All ideas welcome

I use the OM T series flashes having not yet invested in a digital compatable flash but know the problem well. A nice "comfortable to hold" flash grip tends to be big even if not heavy. Here is the OM grip (showing the cable solution for a non T series camera; normally I would use hot shoe T cable that plugs directly into the grip or flash) which is exceedingly confortable to hold.

And here is the neat and nimble solution (using F280 flash) which is a lot harder to hold.
