Arrow PMA storm in a teacup?

Four Thirds User (Fourthirds-user.com) is a sibling site to the e-group.

An interview with an Olympus product manager at this week's PMA 2010 trade show produced a storm in a teacup according to FTU's editor, Ian Burley.

So are a large proportion of AP's staff ex Wapping workers as AP seems to have become the photographic equivalent of the Sun, another tabloid that likes attention grabbing headlines out of context.

Re: PMA storm in a teacup?

It's the same old story really found throughout industry, rumour and counter rumour, I'm afraid that only time will tell who is right on this occasion, but I have no doubt that some DSLR users confidence will have been knocked and will be watching closely before investing further in the E System.
Of course it would help greatly if Oly themselves were to tell us all what is planned, but that sadly is unlikely

Re: PMA storm in a teacup?

Personally I don't pay much attention to AP, there is more immediate and more detailed information to be found on the more reputable web sites.

Such as the interview with John Knaur and Peter Ewen of Olympus America on the Imaging Resource site (http://www.imaging-resource.com/EVEN...267027086.html). And I quote part of that:

"IR:
So you see Micro Four Thirds as a third category. It's for people that want more than a digicam, but not a full SLR. It's probably a larger category then?

Knaur:
It's a large category, and I don't think it's going to replace the SLR, because I think at the high-end, like our E-3 or E-30 user, there's still an SLR buyer. They are still interested in the feature set and what that camera brings to the market. So I don't think you're going to see us trying to replace the E-3 with a PEN camera. But I do think 10 years down the road, I think the mirrorless digital interchangeable lens system cameras will be powerful enough that they may start growing the market well beyond what the SLR market is, and eating into that low-end SLR
."

Maybe this is Olympus's response to a media storm, but it sounds pretty sensible and convincing to me.
