Question Original 50-200mm going rate...

I'll be selling a couple of years old, good condition Olympus 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 sometime in the next few weeks. Is the going rate really down below £500 like one was sold for recently via this forum?

Anyone looking for the non-SWD 50-200mm and have a prospective budget to suggest?

Thanks

Re: Original 50-200mm going rate...

I would put it in the 430-500 region if it has all of the original case, tripod mount, box etc.

I sold one a couple of weeks ago towards the upper end of that range.

It is the way things are going. There was a rise a few months back but things are really on the way down for this lens.

The avarage selling price of the last 100 sold on ebay is £420

I appreciate it is not what you want to here but for buyers, it's good news.

I bought my original 50-200mm in July 2004 and paid £720.

Re: Original 50-200mm going rate...

Cheers Steve, I thought it was something like that. The second hand Mark 1's are an absolute bargain at the moment. I received mine today and its in first class condition. Its a lens I've wanted for a long time but I could never justify the price brand new. The lack of SWD is not an issue to me but the speed is and I found the 70-300mm to be lacking in both sharpness and speed. (Although it is a pretty good lens for the price). The trouble is, once I tried the 50-200mm the 70-300mm just didn't cut the mustard anymore. Thats the trouble with the higher grade zuiko's, once you've tried them there is no going back, at least for me anyway. The only exception is the 40-150mm Mark 2 in my eyes, which is great for a light walkabout telephoto in good light.

The 50-200mm lens is superb, I have both versions and love them.

Is there any difference in Image Quality ?

How often is the extra speed really an advantage?

Thanks

I haven't had the SWD version very long and haven't got around to doing any comparison tests yet. I am off to Scotland this weekend and hope to spend some time with the camera, so hopefully I can get some shots from both lenses to evaluate. If so, I will post the results here in a week or so.

The SWD does focus appear to be noticeably quicker. I am off to the Red Sea next month and will be using the E-3 and SWD lens to, hopefully, get some fast dolphin action.

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks for all the replies. Think I'll see what I can get here in Finland then - think I can get nearer/over the 600 mark. Especially if the pound doesn't suddenly get stronger.
