Hummingbird Hawk Moth

We had a surprise visitor to our garden on Saturday morning, a Hummingbird Hawk Moth.

We’ve had a few visits from them this year however, I thought they’d all gone.

All images taken with an E-M1 II, 300mm Pro and MC-14.

Re: Hummingbird Hawk Moth

Fabulous shots indeed and ones to be proud of.

The moth's body reminds me of a furry lobster, not that I've ever seen a furry lobster

Wonderful shots Dave. I have got some Hardy Plumbago in my garden too. I have seen loads of butterflies on it but no Hummingbird Hawk Moths.

Thanks Ron,

Weíve had these visit the garden a few times this year however, they seem to visit at random times and donít stay for long.

Iíve spotted our visits purely by chance, on the occasions Iíve waited for them, camera in hand, they didnít show.

We also had a Broad-bordered Bee Hawk Moth visit earlier this year.

Thanks for your kind comments.

These were taken using natural light only, I donít believe in using flash when photographing wildlife.

Thank you,

Iím very impressed with the E-M1 II and the 300mm lens, the results they produce are very good.

I know of two ardent and long term Canon users, local to us, who have recently moved to Olympus and a couple of others who are considering doing so.
