Re: Hi from South Wales

The best systems are always complicated by definition...………..

Oly's fault (?) is that is gives you so many options.

Work at it, and it will pay you back plenty...……(promise)...

Re: Hi from South Wales

Thanks
I also have the 1.4x teleconverter

I have only had the camera a couple of days yet, but am finding it and it's menu very complex.

But will try to master it. I was fortunate as the camera came with the full manual.

Not sure I agree there. My K5ii is a very powerful and capable model but is also highly intuitive and pleasant to use. My wife's FujiFilm XE-2, XT-1, and XT-2 are an absolute delight to use as the aperture rings are lens-mounted, the shutter speeds have a shutter speed dial on the top-plate, as do the ISO settings, so all exactly where they should be with the lesser used extensions to those controls hidden away in logical menus, also where they should be. The lenses also have the simple and effective push-pull clutch mechanism to switch between manual and auto focus just like on my current Olympus lenses. It was clearly designed by photographers for photographers. But sadly no IBIS, not as weather-resistant, and no keystone-correction.

By contrast my E-M1ii seems to have been designed by engineers who packed a huge amount of stuff in there and then decided to make it almost as awkward as possible to get to grips with.

I now like the camera as I recognise what it can do, but when I see that my Tough TG-5 has many of the same abilities but with a hugely simpler and more intuitive menu it makes me want to give the Olympus designers a good slap. The late and great Maitani-san would roll in his grave if he tried the E-M1.

To Roy, the sincere best advice I can give is this: Don’t worry about all the menus and controls. Get out there using your camera as often as you can, even for mundane stuff you’ll never keep. Pick a single mode to begin with and whenever it can’t do what you need to achieve move away from it briefly at first to explore another function and then move back to your comfort zone. It really is a great camera with excellent lenses. Any frustration you experience will be normal and at least you’ll know it’s less than most Sony Alpha users suffer...

If you are talking about the E-M1 II then there is an updated Manual Version 3 showing the extra features & Menu changes for Firmware 3.0 (now updated with bug fixes to 3.1). https://cs.olympus-imaging.jp/en/sup...1m2_ver3_e.pdf
Found here. https://cs.olympus-imaging.jp/en/sup...l/pen.cfm#body

Re: Hi from South Wales

Welcome!

FWIW I bought a printed manual for my E-M10ii from ebay from a seller pdf-2-print on a recommendation from here.
They didn't have it available but listed it when I asked them to

Very very useful and quite a bit cheaper - this is the EM1ii

Re: Hi from South Wales

Hi
Thank you

I think that is the one that came with the camera (bought it off someone who had it as a gift and never used it)

Re: Hi from South Wales

The E-M10ii only came with a quick start guide and the PDF on a disc.

The full manual is quite a tome!

Having it on paper is very helpful when you're getting to grips with it to begin with if you have it already that's a bonus!
