Exclamation Hogweed Alert

With school holidays not too far away, this might be worth a heads-up?

Giant Hogweed, a poisonous plant which can be found in parks, footpaths and riverbanks, is spreading across the UK due to the recent warm weather.

Look for the PlantTracker App contained within this link http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/...wave-1-8643616

Re: Hogweed Alert

I understand that the sap can irritate the skin and cause it to become sensitive to sunlight, though it seems to vary from person to person as I've handled it with no ill effects.

Yes. A work colleague was put in hospital by it. It should be emphasized that you don't have to cut it or break it to be exposed. The hairs on the stems, or leaves can penetrate your skin or release fluid onto it.

Re: Hogweed Alert

There was a couple of clumps of this along the riverbank at Strumpshaw Fen when I was there recently. They had cordoned it off with striped tape so it looked rather sinister. I think they had sprayed it, so I am glad somebody is looking after our welfare.
