Very lucky today.

You wont see one of these very often.

According to the RSPB site there only between 50 and 150 Bitterns over-wintering in the UK.

I felt very lucky to see him.

On his way

These were taken at Fishers Green near Waltham Abbey, see the map below.

http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll...,0.038452&z=15

Also there were two guys with EOS 1D's and lenses that made my 50-500 look very small.
I must admit the E3's shutter sounded less noisy than theirs though.
Hope their pictures came out OK to.

Re: Very lucky today.

Absolutly cracking shots. Well spotted.

Once again you have shown that it's not the size of your equipment that matters ...

I'd be happy to spot one, let alone get shots like these. Superb pictures. Well done.

Re: Very lucky today.

Well done on these absolutely cracking shots of a beautiful bird. I saw many of these when I worked at Leighton Moss in Lancashire, but at that time didn't own a camera capable of this class of shot. I'm jealous!!

Brilliant pics!!
What lens did you use for these Andy?
I have only seen one of these thru a scope and that wasn't easy.
