A Bit of Sydney (Harbour) #2 - Queen Mary 2 in port.

EDIT: I've added another full side view of the Queen Mary 2 with the Destine, Sydney oil tanker & also (one of) Captain Cook Cruises small ship/boat (or whatever it should be called).

Note the Bridge & Opera House.

At the Overseas Passenger Terminal

And a final view of the ship's stern tied up in dock showing the ropes (with more in my Four Thirds User gallery).

All taken around Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour (with E-M1 & 12-50 lens & processed in Capture One Pro 9).

EDIT: I've added another full side view.

It's been around a while now, but it's still a magnificent ship and an imposing sight.

Ross,
Fine images.
#1 - I see the QM requires it's own oil tanker for a top up. Must be good for global warming

A splendid series, Ross.

Now I have a suggestion to put to all our fellow UK forum members.

Why not charter this ship to bring you all to Oz for a month's field trip - Ross and I will gladly show you around at mate's rates ...

Re: A Bit of Sydney (Harbour) #2 - Queen Mary 2 in port.

I've added another full side view of the Queen Mary 2 in the original post since I realised I could extract it from one of my photos taken at 12mm.

Yes it is & realising the side view I had (cropped from a 12mm shot) was worth adding too.

Thanks. I hadn't thought about it being an oil tanker but I guess the Queen Mary 2 has to be refuelled somehow.

And close crops of it (not bad for a 12-50 lens? ).

I certainly wouldn't enjoy "parking it" & it ain't my choice of travel either.

Thanks Mark (I've also added another, #2), but let's not get too carried away.

Certainly Queen of the seas.
The first photograph I ever took was of the " Queen Mary " in Southampton Docks in 1961 with a 127 llford sport my old Dad presented me with as I left home for the school holiday on the Isle of White.

You're welcome. I don't think I would enjoy being on such a huge ship (or any really). A ferry ride across the Harbour is enough for me.

I thought I'd better read up a little on this ship & it appears it was built in 2003-2004 unlike the original Queen Mary ship (ocean liner).
Quote:
RMS Queen Mary 2 (also referred to as the QM2) is a transatlantic ocean liner. She is the only major ocean liner built for Cunard Line since Queen Elizabeth 2 in 1969, the vessel she succeeded as flagship of the Cunard Line.

The ship (QM2) was designed by a team of British naval architects led by Stephen Payne, and was constructed in France by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in 2003.

John, did you read my last post? I was under the impression you indicated it has been around awhile, as in several decades but this ocean liner was only built in 2003-2004. Is that what you meant?
