A few from my "New" canon FD 400 f4.5 on the EM-1

As my 500mm mirror had finally gone out of alignment I decided to replace it as my "Long garden + astro lens" with a canon fd 400 f4.5 (thanks Matt at Mifsuds).

It arrived today, just as the light was going (Ian, you weren't the only one to suffer )

Anyway, I've had the chance to bang off a few shots, some through the conservatory window and others of my standard focus test shots, all off the monopod, all f5.6+/- one stop

See what you think of these tests shots (not great pics I hasten to add )

Sparrow through glass on my arch (min focal distance)

Great tit in feeder tree at about 35ft

Tired primulas on Pam's studio, about 20ft (this one was hand-held at 1/320th sec! )

all the above were ISO1600

Sand tower focus test at about 400m ( these are still at ISO1600)

the test is to be able to clearly read the cast numbers on the structure, this is a 100% crop from the upper portion

and this is my 800m pylon focus test (this is at ISO400)

with a 100% crop from the top set of insulators

I reckon that after a bit of practise I should be able to get some decent pics out of this combo

Purple CA is very evident with high contrast / bright background twigs and the like (easily removed in LR)

It looks promising Duncan, a bit of a lump to cart around but I guess it will have to take a trip up to our local marshes to see how it copes with the birds there next time its low tide and decent light

Re: A few from my "New" canon FD 400 f4.5 on the EM-1

my wife's first ever shot using the EM-5, I had the EM-5 + 400 fd mounted on the tripod with the lens resting against the window, focused on the Robin feeder about 25ft away.

Pre-focused with the remote connected I left the conservatory quickly and told her that if the Robin came to press the release button

When I came back it was still chugging out frames at about 4fps with a worried Pam explaining she couldn't stop it (she'd slid the button forward into the lock position )

As it turned out she had got some quite nice shots, so she is now very proud of herself

So far I'm delighted with this lens, just need some good light and an interesting subject or two to give it a real work out
