How low can you go? Challenge

E400
40-150mm
EC14

All hand held too.

Challenged myself today at a local motorsport event to see how low I could get my shutter speed and still get a decent picture, testing of my panning technique!

That was it, 1/30 before everything became a little too messy. I was quite pleased with that.

They are all most impressive of your skill and technique. Obviously the result of a lot of practice, which is a lesson to us all.

Re: How low can you go? Challenge

Interesting exercise and excellent shots guys. The first is my favourite as I've a soft spot for minis and the effect on the wheels adding to the panning effect is just great. Really shows off the movement. Thanks for posting the detailed settings tooTim I must have a go sometime.

Re: How low can you go? Challenge

Thanks very much for all the feedback.

I had alot more success with the 40-150mm + EC14 than I did with the 70-300mm the bigger lens seemed to struggle a little at these speeds.

I too am very impressed with the first mini, the detail was really rather good for the shutter speed used. These cars are not exactly slow either, this one was running motorbike egines! Not only is there the forward motion but the up and down motion too from the rough track.

Processing is not my stongest point but I think more could be got from this picture to make it really "pop"?

Re: How low can you go? Challenge

Tim, these are simply amazing and a great demonstration of the technique. Anyone who has tried knows how difficult it can be but you make it look so easy. I can't get that sharp panning at 1/200th sec!

Re: How low can you go? Challenge

Here's one I took a few years ago now at Paddington station. I stood and braced myself against a pillar, and fired this one off.

F4.5, 1 second.

Re: How low can you go? Challenge

Wow some very impressive results, when panning I fail to get below 1/60 as seen here

Musicman I like that, very impressive.
Nothing wrong with that shot Steve it's very sharp.
