Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

Yep definitely Trafalgar Square. Google provides all the details. I must admit it was quite a surprise to me too when I saw it for the first time. The street entertainers next to it were pretty impressive too. I'll see if I can sort out some shots.

I expected yellow from the title Phill, and then thought - Rooster - Red?
But BLUE?
Impressive bird.

Hi Phill,

I know it well. Seen it many times and will probably see it later as I am heading south now.

Phil,
You're lucky it didn't lay an egg while you were standing that close!

Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

I guessed Trafalgar Square because I recognised the plinth. I must have seen other photos of other installations.

Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

Well recognised from that small section of the plinth David.
Here's a bit more context for you.

Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

What you learn on this forum!
Interested to know more about your blue cockerel Phill, I googled.
And discovered it is the Hahn/Cock - Hahn being the German word for cockerel.
The double entendre is of course giggle value for schoolchildren.
And living in Hahndorf, I have never heard that the good Captain Hahn's name, after whom our pretty village is named, had this meaning.
There you go!

Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

Not really in keeping with the classical backdrop I have to say, Phill, just one of those incongruities that define our times, I suppose.

And I'm not sure what relevance a cockerel has to the setting, perhaps the sculptor's intention was simply to shock.

Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

I've no idea what was behind it either Mark but it just looked so strange I had to take a picture of it. I got a few of some street characters at the same time, maybe I'll start another thread.

Re: 15 foot Chicken!!!

It is known as the Fourth Plinth, it had been built to hold a statue that did not get made. Recently it was decided to use it as a place for an installation

See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_...afalgar_Square
In 2010 there was a ship in a bottle on the plinth.
